HITCH star EVA MENDES was so addicted to energy drink Red Bull her friends had to stage an intervention to get her to cut down on the caffeine-rich beverage.
The star found herself working non-stop and desperately relied on the drink to give her an extra burst of energy.
She explains, “I’ve had a very busy year. I’ve been fortunate enough to be working a lot and I got myself into a bad pattern of drinking Red Bull and using it to get me through the day.
“(I was drinking) eight a day - I’m not even joking. I had a serious problem.
“My friends at work were concerned, they were like, ‘You’re drinking a lot.’ And I said, ‘No, I’m not.’ Total denial like a real addict.
“Then they said, ‘Eva, look in the trash can there are like 12 Red Bulls in there.
“I said, ‘Those aren’t mine. Yeah, some of them are….’ “So then I started masking the trash. I’d put like a newspaper over it or some other stuff. It was sad!”

JOHNNY KNOXVILLE can tolerate huge trauma and getting knocked out for the sake of a good stunt - but don’t ask him to shoot pranks at night or in cold water.
The zany stuntman, who shot to fame as the leader of MTV’s JACKASS crew, admits he’s up for anything as long as it doesn’t involve darkness or cold.
He tells Blender magazine, "I hate anything dealing with cold weather or cold water, and I don’t like filming at night.
"I don’t mind blunt-force trauma or getting knocked out, but hate the annoying little stinging, sapping-type bits.
"I don’t like electrocution - it makes me so angry, like someone pulling your hair."

The silicone snakes featured in SAMUEL L JACKSON’s new movie SNAKES ON A PLANE will be auctioned off to benefit an animal rights organisation.
American Humane monitors animal safety on film sets and is known for its "no animals were harmed" disclaimer that appears in many movie credits.
The snakes will be auctioned off at auction.newline.com and bids can be placed for the next two weeks, ending 12 September (06).
Among the items up for auction are a 53-inch (135-centimetre) cottonmouth and a 40-inch (103-centimetre) coral snake - which cost up to $12,000 (£6,600) to create.

Famed director MARTIN SCORSESE has been hired as a film critic for an American satellite TV service after complaining about their movie review system.
THE AVIATOR director will pen a monthly column for On DirecTV, a magazine and programme guide for people who subscribe to DirectTV, a satellite television service.
Scorsese will offer critiques of overlooked films on DirecTV.
Executives at the company came up with the idea when Scorsese, a DirecTV subscriber, wrote to the firm to suggest changes in the movie review system.

Comedian DAVID SPADE has slammed talk show host JAY LENO on his own programme for regularly making fun of him in his opening monologue.
Spade appeared on the TONIGHT SHOW WITH JAY LENO on Monday night (28AUG06) and was quick to highlight Leno’s obsession with his seemingly mismatched relationship with HEATHER LOCKLEAR.
Leno asked Spade why he didn’t accompany Locklear to the Emmy Awards on Sunday (27AUG06), saying, "You’re the boy toy - what happened there?" A reluctant Spade replied, "I don’t know if I’m that, but I do appreciate whenever I get to see the show that you’re doing some joke about me in the monologue, it’s always fun.
"You’re way out of line, Jay." When Leno tried to back-pedal, insisting he’d only mentioned the couple once, Spade had video footage ready to roll of all of Leno’s barbs.
Spade commented on his relationship with the former MELROSE PLACE star saying, "We are friends. We were actually out on the beach this week." Leno persisted with, "What are your intentions - are you serious with this young woman?" Spade tried desperately to change the subject saying, "Sir, we have other things to talk about tonight. We’ll go to a commercial and I’ll tell you the whole story."

Sexy EVA MENDES has bared all for a racy new photospread in US style magazine Flaunt.
The actress has resisted offers from Playboy, but she stripped for photographer DON FLOOD’s spread and pull-out poster, which comes complete with her full-lip imprint and signature.
But Mendes isn’t exactly revealing everything in the spread - for most of the shots she’s clothed or wearing a sexy black basque, and in shots where she’s naked, only her back and bottom are exposed as she covers her breasts and cheekily looks over her shoulder.
She says, "I actually did a little nude shot. You won’t see anything. I was covering myself… but I love Flaunt. I think their artwork is some of the best artwork out there as far as photography is concerned, so I took it off.
"I felt really comfortable. It was fun. There’s something really liberating about it.
"The last couple of years I’ve shied away from taking photos, even in a bikini, because I was like, ‘No, no, no. I don’t want to be that girl.’"

KEVIN COSTNER and ASHTON KUTCHER visited a US Coast Guard station yesterday (28AUG06) to promote their new film THE GUARDIAN - and apologised for not being impressive.
Faced by the real heroes, who regularly risk their own lives to rescue fishermen and boaters from dangerous ocean waters, Costner confessed he was more than a little humbled playing one of them.
He said, "Actors are not nearly as impressive in person as we seem to be on film.
"We get to portray these men and women, who are often tougher than we are, men and women who are often smarter than we are, and in the case of The Guardian, we are talking about men and women with the personal courage to put themselves in danger in a way I don’t know I would." Costner and Kutcher will visit a string of US Coast Guard stations as part of their promotional tour for the film.

LATEST: TV stuntman BAM MARGERA’s uncle DON VITO has been told he must check in with a Colorado court twice a week and stay away from kids as he awaits a sexual assault hearing.
The chubby prankster, real name VINCENT MARGERA, is charged with two counts of sexual assault on a child and faces trial at the end of October (06).
A Colorado judge ruled yesterday (28AUG06) that Margera could leave the state and return home to Pennsylvania - as long as he adhered to conditions set by his bail.
Margera, a regular on his nephew’s wacky VIVA LA BAM TV show, posted $50,000 (£27,800) bail and must be supervised during his release, during which he needs to check in with pretrial services officers twice a week.
He is not allowed to have any contact with children younger than 18, cannot consume any drugs or alcohol and will be subject to random urine tests.
Margera, 50, was arrested earlier this month (AUG06) after allegedly inappropriately fondling two underage girls during two separate incidents at a signing event at a skatepark in Colorado.
He has hired attorney PAMELA MACKEY, who represented Los Angeles Lakers star KOBE BRYANT in his 2004 sexual assault case in Colorado.

LATEST: Hollywood insiders are branding TOM CRUISE desperate for signing up with a finance group whose members own amusement parks and football teams.
The MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE star announced yesterday (28AUG06) that he had negotiated a deal with Washington Redskins owner DANIEL M SNYDER and Six Flags amusement park chief executive MARK SHAPIRO.
Cruise was publicly dropped from Paramount Pictures last week (ends27AUG06), after the studio decided not to renew his contract after 14 years.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Cruise and his representatives had been shopping for another studio in Hollywood all summer without success.
The newspaper interviewed numerous talent agents and movie executives, who did not want to be named because the talks were confidential.
At least three studios had rejected Cruise’s terms, the newspaper claims.
According to one agency executive, "It all feels very knee-jerk. This feels very Plan C, maybe even Plan D.
"When you lose your studio and you get into business with amusement parks, that’s a problem."

THE SCORPIONS star RALPH RIECKERMAN has signed on to score new horror movie BROTHERHOOD OF BLOOD.
The German rocker is making a name for himself as a horror film composer - he has also scored spoof movie DRIVE-THRU.
Rieckerman says, "I love horror movies, and I love to work on them. I saw a rough cut of Brotherhood of Blood and I instantly knew this was the movie I was looking for. It’s a very interesting new approach to the hunters versus vampires story." Brotherhood of Blood stars THE DEVIL’S REJECTS star SID HAIG and JASON CONNERY.

CHARLOTTE CHURCH is banning boyfriend GAVIN HENSON from appearing on her new talk show, so she can keep their relationship as private as possible.
The couple are followed by the press everywhere they go and paparazzi photographers camp outside their Cardiff, Wales home - so Church is determined to protect what little privacy they have left.
The singer, whose TV series THE CHARLOTTE CHURCH SHOW debuts in the UK on Friday (01SEP06), says, "I know it’s a Hollywood thing to say, but me and him together, I kind of like that to be just ours. Everything else is so much public property that I don’t really want it to be out there."

FALL OUT BOY and MARILYN MANSON are among the stars paying tribute to TIM BURTON’s classic Halloween movie THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS on a new soundtrack album.
The acts have recorded covers of the composer DANNY ELFMAN’s macabre tunes for the release of the 3-D version of the animated movie this autumn (06).
The film was first released in 1993 and has become a cult hit, spawning merchandise and memorabilia.

Pop star BRITNEY SPEARS has registered for thousands of dollars worth of pricey baby gifts at a Los Angeles boutique - including a $1,200 (£660) baby chandelier.
Posh store Petit Tresor is a favourite with celebrity mums and Spears has reportedly registered on the shop’s website.
A source confirms to MSNBC’s The Scoop, "She’s having a baby shower soon and has told friends that they can order gifts from the site.
"It’s not like she’s expecting her friends to buy everything for the baby.
She’s already spent, like, $30,000 (£17,000) at the store." The pregnant pop star’s registry strongly suggests she’s expecting a baby girl because of the predominately pink and frilly merchandise selected.

LATEST: JESSICA SIMPSON is desperately battling throat problems as she prepares to launch her new album, but has refused to cancel an appearance on MTV’s TRL, which is hosted by ex-husband NICK LACHEY’s new girlfriend VANESSA MINNILLO.
The pop star is in New York City to promote her new album A PUBLIC AFFAIR and has already cancelled appearances on US breakfast show TODAY and LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN.
Simpson had a slew of media interviews planned and cancelled all of them except TRL.
Although she won’t sing on the show, she will make a special guest appearance to promote the album.
Simpson’s representative ROB SHUTER tells American publication People, "Jessica has lost her voice on the eve of her album release.
"We hope she can recover. The timing could not have been worse." Simpson appeared on TRL in July (06) to debut the video for A Public Affair and Minnillo was noticeably absent.
A source close to Simpson says the singer visited doctors on Monday (28AUG06), saying, "If she does not observe vocal rest, she could lose her voice forever." The singer’s roller-skating record release party is tonight (29AUG06) at the Roxy, but Simpson has been strictly forbidden from speaking.

The second show is an interview we did with Kali Akuno of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement to find out what’s really going on in New Orleans.
As we know oftentimes we see and hear things in the mainstream that don’t always either the important perspectives held by marginalized people and people of color. Far too often we also don’t hear perspectives that seriously challenge those who are in power.
In this interview Kali who now holds it down as the national outreach coordinator for the Peoples Hurricane Relief Fund, gives a full breakdown as to what is going on New Orleans.
He talks about the insidious deadline the government put on residents to gut their houses or have it confiscated. The deadline is today (August 29). Many news agencies have not reported this.
Kali also talks about all the Mexican workers that have been brought in to provide cheap labor that has undercut longtime New Orlean residents. This has set off major Black-Brown tensions in the region. Many of the immigrant workers are treated like shit by the developers who have not provided housing, benefits and often threaten workers with deportation if they complain or ask for more amenities. He says its not usual to see immigrants sprawled out on the streets and in parks at night looking for a place to sleep.
Kali also talks about big time developers like Donald Trump coming down here trying to buy up property and being shown lots of love by the city, while long time residents Master P and Baby of Cash Money were not allowed to purchase the housing projects which still stand in tact, but unihabitated. They are scheduled to be torn down.
This is an eye opening interview that will definitely remind you just how crazy things are in this country.

British director RICHARD CURTIS’ 1999 movie NOTTING HILL nearly saw JULIA ROBERTS’ character losing HUGH GRANT to another woman - but the film-maker couldn’t face an unhappy ending.
Curtis was originally keen for a more down-to-earth character to win the heart of Grant - who played WILLIAM THACKER - but it wasn’t to be.
He says, "Notting Hill took forever to write, mainly because there was a six-month period where it was going to be about a choice: Hugh’s character choosing between Julia’s famous girl, and a girl called HONEY, a local shop girl.
"Eventually, in the finished version of that film he chose the shop girl and Julia’s character arrived in England on the day of the wedding.
"You thought she was going to mess everything up but instead, she arrived at the reception, and sang TAKE GOOD CARE OF MY BABY by BOBBY VEE.
"I eventually couldn’t bear writing a film where someone really fell in love with someone else, and then just dumped them - so I made Honey into Hugh’s sister and made everything turn out peachy for the actress."
