Newly-discovered correspondences from the writer to his film production boss IVAR BRYCE revealed his true wishes, which were ignored by producers HARRY SALTZMAN and ALBERT R. BROCCOLI.
Fleming wrote, “I think that Richard Burton would be by far the best James Bond.” The letters also show Fleming wanted legendary film director ALFRED HITCHCOCK to direct the first Bond movie. In a cable to a friend he wrote: “Would Hitchcock be interested in directing first Bond film?”

Former JAMES BOND actor PIERCE BROSNAN has given his blessing to new 007 star DANIEL CRAIG.
The Irish-born actor, 53, starred in the last four Bond films before being axed in favour of the 38-year-old Englishman.
But after initial disappointment, the suave actor is convinced the superspy role is in safe hands.
Craig says, "I met Pierce about a year ago. Very nice. He said go for it.
He’s a lovely, lovely man."

Director ROB REINER is calling on troubled star MEL GIBSON to admit that ‘his work reflects anti-Semitism’. Gibson was arrested last month (JUL06) after being caught drink-driving, and then launching into an anti-Semitic rant to the Jewish police officer who stopped him.
The actor released a statement earlier this month (AUG06) where he said, "Please know from my heart I am not an anti-Semite. I am not a bigot. Hatred of any kind goes against my faith." But Reiner, who is Jewish, in convinced that Gibson is an anti-Semite, and uses Gibson’s film THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST as evidence.
Reiner says, "It’s not a matter of just apologising for some words you’ve said.
"When he can come out and say, you know, ‘My views have been reflected in my work and I feel bad that I’ve done that,’ then that will be the beginning of some reconciliation for him.
"I believe that people can be redeemed and people can change, but that’s going to be a very long process."

Actor MATT LeBLANC is being sued by a woman on claims of defamation.
STEPHANIE STEPHENS, has filed suit against the former FRIENDS star after discovering he reportedly claimed she was sexually aggressive, gave him a private lap dance and engaged him in a "night of sexual debauchery." Stephens denies the allegations.
The star, famous for his portrayal of struggling actor JOEY TRIBBIANI in the hit TV show, divorced from his wife MELISSA McKNIGHT this year (JAN06).

Movie-maker ROBERT EVANS is reportedly furious over a new character in TV hit ENTOURAGE, which appears to parody him.
THE COTTON CLUB producer was approached by US cable network HBO earlier this year (06) to make a cameo in the comedy show, but he refused, although he did give permission for the cast and crew to use his home.
In this month’s (AUG06) episodes of the show however, MARTIN LANDAU plays a ‘washed-up’ film-maker named BOB RYAN, which insiders claim is based on Evans.
A source tells the New York Daily News, "They named the character Bob and made him an old, loopy producer. They even used Evans’ own house in the show." However, a HBO representative insists, "Bob Ryan was not based on Robert Evans."

DAVID HASSELHOFF reportedly made former wife PAMELA BACH sign a pre-nuptial agreement just minutes before she walked down the aisle with him - by pretending the papers were a marriage license, the actress claims.
The former BAYWATCH star allegedly rushed his pregnant fiancee’s into signing the papers just 30 minutes before the ceremony was due to begin in December 1989.
The astonishing details were revealed in court papers submitted last week (begs21AUG06) in Los Angeles, as part of ongoing proceedings between the couple who divorced last month (JUL06).
Bach says, "I was under the impression that I was being asked to sign my marriage license," adding that she "felt rushed and compelled to sign the document quickly.
"I did not realise I was rushing to execute the final version of a signature page which would be attached to a pre-nuptial agreement."

An insider says, "Gwyneth has said she’s keen to direct pop videos said Chris has agreed to let her direct one for Coldplay.
"She loves the band and their music, and it’s a way for her and Chris to be together while he’s working."

KASABIAN guitarist SERGE PIZZORNO has launched a scathing attack on KEANE frontman TOM CHAPLIN after he went into rehab for drink and drug addiction.
Pizzorno accuses the musician of pretending to have a drug problem in order to seem more ‘cool’ to rock fans, and insists the BED-SHAPED star would be "in a coffin" if he spent time with hard-living Kasabian.
He fumes, "The guy from Keane is a c**t. He has probably had one line and all his minders are like ‘oooh’. F*** off.
"If he spent ten minutes in this band he’d be in rehab. This guy is going ‘Oooh, everyone thinks we’re f***king safe, I might go into rehab for a week and read a book’. If he spent a day in our band he’d be in a coffin, never mind rehab." But Pizzorno was far more sympathetic towards THE DARKNESS frontman JUSTIN HAWKINS, who is also currently in rehab.
He says, "They were huge and now they’re not so that’s hard to take. I don’t mind that - I think it’s genuine. Anyway, have you seen him?"

PEACHES GELDOF has caused a media frenzy after a photograph was released of her at a party with a rolled up paper being placed up her nostril by a pal. The 17-year-old daughter of SIR BOB GELDOF insists she avoids drinking and drug-taking, but the image, taken at an after-show bash in April (06), shows her appearing to snort something through the “bullet”.
The photograph, which hit the cover of British tabloid the Daily Star today (27AUG06), may weaken the socialite’s argument she is a “good girl”in the eyes of the public - she recently slammed rumours she was caught drinking heavily while performing as part of her DJ duo THE TRASH PUSSIES in Ibiza.
She says, “They can all go to hell. I wish people would just leave me alone.
I’ve done nothing wrong to them - I don’t get it. “I hardly drank. They said I was out of control but it’s nonsense.”

EMINEM has teamed up with sports giant Nike to design a range of sneakers to raise money for impoverished children in the rapper’s home state of Michigan.
The hip-hop star, real name MARSHALL MATHERS III, is designing 64 pairs of limited edition Air Max trainers, which will be autographed and sold from internet auction site eBay and Nike stores from 31 August (06).
Eminem enthuses, "If you told me ten years ago that I’d be designing this whole series of Air Maxs, I never would have believed it.
"It’s one of the hottest lines that Nike ever produced, so I’m honoured to make my own contribution. My only problem was figuring out how to make the shoes different from stuff they’ve already done: Nike always has the dopest colour combos." Proceeds from the sale will go to the LIKE TOY SOLDIERS hitmaker’s Marshall Mathers Foundation and NineMillion.org - an international campaign to educate young refugees.

THE STREETS star MIKE SKINNER successfully seduced a female fan during his set at Britain’s Reading festival yesterday (26AUG06), and even persuaded her to show off her breasts to cameras.
The raunchy MC spotted the sexy brunette on the shoulders of her pal in the audience, and he immediately started chatting her up on the mic, saying, "Hey you, with the green shirt, are you going to be in the dance tent later?" He then adapted THE ARCTIC MONKEYS’ chart-topper I BET YOU LOOK GOOD ON THE DANCEFLOOR, serenading her with the words, "I bet you look good in the dance tent." ROLLING STONES guitarist KEITH RICHARDS may be in trouble with Scottish authorities after breaking the strict country’s smoking ban.
The veteran musician, famed for his hard-living lifestyle, was playing at a concert in Glasgow’s Hampden Park on Friday (25AUG06) as part of the Rolling Stones’ A BIGGER BANG world tour.
But Glasgow City Council is now investigating claims that Richards was smoking on stage. If found guilty, Richards could face a fine of £50 ($94) and Hampden park could face a fine of £250 ($472.00).

JACK WHITE took revenge on a spirited crowd at Britain’s Reading festival last night (26AUG06) - by drenching them with water after cheeky fans pelted him with beer.
White’s band THE RACONTEURS thrilled fans with heavy rock covers of THE UNDERTONES’ punk hit TEENAGE KICKS - a favourite track of late DJ and Reading Festival devotee JOHN PEEL, and NANCY SINATRA’S ‘BANG BANG (MY BABY SHOT ME DOWN)’.
The excitement spiralled out of control when festival-goers started throwing cups of beer onto the stage, soaking the band and forcing security to frantically dry off the stage to prevent any slip-ups.
But White had no qualms about turning the tables on his fans.
An eyewitness says, "Suddenly the crowd at the front went crazy and the band got soaked.
"Security had to come on and mop the floor down. But White got his own back at the end of the set when he picked up a bottle of water and sprayed the front row." And the rocker insists the soggy incident didn’t put him off. He says, "I love coming to Reading - British festivals are always the best."

PRIMAL SCREAM bassist MANI MOUNFIELD was reportedly arrested at Britain’s Leeds rock festival last night (26AUG06) for hitting out after being refused a drink.
The COUNTRY GIRL rocker, formerly of PRIMAL SCREAM, was already drunk when the incident occurred.
British BBC Radio 1 DJ COLIN MURRAY says, "He was arrested, what can you say, Primal Scream aren’t known for drinking cups of tea."

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY has deleted film of his estranged wife HEATHER MILLS from a forthcoming film of his life.
The movie is largely an account of the former BEATLE’s US tour last summer (05), but although the ex model featured in the original footage, he has wasted no time in getting rid of any shots of Mills, with whom he is currently embroiled in a bitter divorce.
A source close to McCartney tells British newspaper The News of the World, "The footage of Heather has not been included in the DVD. Paul wants the release to focus on the music, rather than his family life.
"Work is very much a good distraction from all his worries at the moment."

A mystery blaze on MICHAEL JACKSON’s Neverland estate has been brought under control.
Reasons for the fire are still under investigation - none of the animals in the pop star’s menagerie were harmed, and flames were prevented from touching the main house on the 2,400 acre estate in California.
Jackson is currently living in Bahrain, where he fled after being cleared of child molestation charges last year (13JUN06).

Troubled rapper DMX has upset US troops after mysteriously cancelling his planned tour of army bases in Kuwait and Iraq.
The WHERE THE HOOD AT hitmaker, real name EARL SIMMONS, was scheduled to leave America for the Persian Gulf on Tuesday (22AUG06), but failed to turn up at the airport.
United Service Organisations (USO) senior vice president JOHN HANSON says, "We are extremely disappointed that DMX decided not to complete the tour he asked us to arrange for him.
"When we announced this tour, troops were extremely excited about the possibility of seeing a performer they admired. We understand their disappointment." Hanson added the hip-hop star asked to perform only two weeks before his scheduled arrival, when usually such visits take up to 45 days.
Hanson laments, "This tour was put together in just under two weeks, because we know how much service men and women appreciate his performances. Mr Simmons let a lot of people down." DMX is yet to publicly release a statement regarding the cancellation, but started filming his new movie MARBLE CITY alongside VIVICA A FOX in Arizona last month (JUL06).
