A British bridesmaid is refusing to fly to Brisbane for her best friend’s wedding, choosing to travel the distance by train, bus and boat instead.
Barbara Haddrill, a Welsh environmental activist, has decided to undertake the six-week journey because of the harmful greenhouse gases pumped out by airplanes.
She said: "I feel like I have devoted myself to doing what I can to reduce my impact on the environment.
"If I flew to Australia, I would negate everything I have done for the last six years and that would seem sad." The 28-year-old, who lives in a caravan, will travel by bus to Moscow and take the trans-Siberian railway, before heading south to Singapore, where she hopes to board a boat to Australia.
