The stars of top medical sitcom SCRUBS are set to hit the high notes as part of an all-musical episode in the upcoming series.
Producers of the show have hired the brains behind Broadway, New York hit AVENUE Q to create songs for the quirky one-off special.
It won’t be the first time the cast of a US TV show has shown off its singing and dancing skills - BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER and 7TH HEAVEN have both featured musical specials in the past.

Playing murdered TV SUPERMAN GEORGE REEVES in new movie HOLLYWOODLAND helped BEN AFFLECK turn his back on fame and look for substance in his life.
The actor insists studying playboy Reeves’ life and tragic death, which remains a mystery to this day, helped him get perspective on what’s important in his life.
Affleck, who admits he watched 104 episodes of Reeves’ Superman series to get prepared for the part, explains, "He was an iconic guy because of who he played but he died tragically.
"What he had was never enough. You need to learn there are far more things to make you happy, like a wonderful wife and child.
"I’m lucky I was able to see the hollowness of fame. Family’s what really matters."

BARRY HUMPHRIES’ comic creation DAME EDNA EVERAGE has been honoured with the key to the city of Melbourne, Australia.
Humphries, 72, has been playing Everage since 1955, although Melbourne is celebrating the character’s 50th anniversary.
The city’s Lord Mayor JOHN SO presented Everage with her honour at yesterday’s (23AUG06) ceremony.
Speaking at the event, Everage said, "I was born in this lovely town and I’ve never had a key to it. I’ve always snuck in while the door was ajar." So added, "Through her humour Dame Edna has changed the way Melburnians think and laugh about themselves. For 50 years she has been putting Melbourne on the international comedy map."

Movie superhero TOBEY MAGUIRE’s mother is planning on becoming a real-life superheroine after a cheating boyfriend alerted her to the depths of Asia’s child sex market.
Screenwriter/producer WENDY MAGUIRE flew into a rage when she learned her boyfriend had cheated on her with a young girl during a trip to Thailand, but rather than allow herself to be consumed by jealousy, SPIDER-MAN’s sassy mom started investigating.
She explains, "He (boyfriend) went to Thailand and met a girl there and had an affair and I was really mad, so I started reading about Thailand and it took my attention away from him having an affair with a girl to reading about all the brothels where kids as young as four ply their trade.
"I was horrified. It was like, ‘OK God, you got my attention about this, fine.’" Maguire has spent much of 2006 researching the human trafficking and sex slavery problems in Asia with a view to making a harrowing movie about the sick epidemic.
She adds, "I’m researching the docu-dramas and there’s never been a really good movie and I would like to create one on this subject because these children are used and sold. They’re little tiny babies - four years old.
"Their handlers start beating them until they conform: ‘This is what you’re going to do or we’ll beat you more.’ I think it’s worse than slavery.
"There’s at least one organisation that have these kids kill each other for sport. I’m collecting all this information. All of a sudden I felt, ‘This is my passion, this is what I want to do.’" And Maguire doesn’t plan to stop at simply making a film about the sick Asian trade - she’s actively looking to create orphanages in the US for the kids she hopes to rescue from a life of sex and violence.
She explains, "I would like property owners to donate their land where we can build orphanages and go in and rescue those children and bring them back."

The Hollywood Film Festival has selected OLIVER STONE to receive its Director Of The Year award.
The honour will be presented at an awards ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on 23 October (06).
The festival will present a retrospective of the Oscar winner’s work, including SALVADOR, BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY, PLATOON and WORLD TRADE CENTER.
Following the retrospective, Stone will participate in a panel discussion with special guests.

LATEST: Tom Cruise has gained support from an unlikely ally - US TODAY show host MATT LAUER, who sparred with Cruise last year (05) over the use of anti-depressant drugs.
Cruise famously called Lauer "glib" during the interview while touting his Scientology beliefs and the evils of psychiatry.
Lauer came to the star’s defence on Wednesday (23AUG06) morning on his show, saying, "Maybe he speaks out about Scientology and some people don’t like that, but what about the stars who are in and out of rehab every week? "Is that any worse? And yet you find movie companies still in business with them."

CHEECH & CHONG star TOMMY CHONG has slammed US President GEORGE W BUSH and his conservative administration for sending him to jail for selling water pipes.
The star was sentenced to nine months in prison for conspiring to send the merchandise across state lines.
He explains, "I wasn’t selling anything. The only thing I did wrong was have my face on the bong. They were glass water pipes. Bong is a Vietnamese word for water pipe.
"They showed me a law that was passed when (BILL) CLINTON was president that made it illegal to have, possess, use, think about, maybe have in your hand, anything that could resemble anything that you could use to smoke an illegal substance.
"No state in the union prosecuted the law except Pennsylvania, the home of the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) and Iowa, the home of Bush idiots." Chong was caught during a sting operation set up by the DEA where they placed an undercover agent in the water pipe factory and had the bongs shipped to Pennsylvania.
The UP IN SMOKE star has moved on to other interesting entrepreneurial endeavours since his incarceration, adding, "I had to quit the bong business.
"My wife and I, we tour around and do comedy shows and we sell Chong thongs (G-stings) - they’ve got my face on them - the beard kinds of blends in!"

LATEST: MEL GIBSON is making secret phone calls to Hollywood’s top Jews to personally apologise for an anti-Semitic rant he stunned Tinseltown with last month (JUL06).
The movie star launched into a scathing attack on Jews during a drink-driving arrest in California, and now he’s keen to make amends.
A source tells TMZ.com that Gibson has been calling top Hollywood moguls, with whom he has worked in the past, to apologise for his much-publicised remarks.
One of the people on the receiving end of disgraced Gibson’s apology tells the website the actor said he wanted him to know he was really sorry and was working on his "problem." Gibson also said he hoped he would be able to work with him again.
The unnamed mogul says he was civil to the BRAVEHEART star but remains unconvinced the actor was being completely sincere.
Gibson’s publicist claims the actor is in a recovery programme following his drink-driving arrest.
The actor has already turned down an invite to speak to Jews at Los Angeles’ Temple Of The Arts on holy day Yom Kippur in October (06).

MADONNA is winning the battle against age, according to readers of America’s In Touch magazine.
Despite turning 48 earlier this month (16AUG06), only seven per cent of readers voted the MATERIAL GIRL looks her age.
While 56 per cent of those polled claimed Madonna looks six years younger at 42 - 37 per cent of readers who voted thought the pop superstar had the look of someone in her late 30s.

AMERICAN IDOL finalist CONSTANTINE MAROULIS is heading to Broadway to join the cast of THE WEDDING SINGER in September (06).
Maroulis will play the title character’s best friend, SAMMY, on the New York City stage until 5 November (06).
He is a veteran of musical theatre, having performed in the North American and Asian touring companies of RENT.
And Maroulis isn’t the only Idol star hitting the stage - third-season runner-up DIANA DEGARMO is returning to HAIRSPRAY on 8 September (06) in the role of PENNY PINGLETON. She played the role for three months earlier this year (06).

Country star MARTINA McBRIDE has recorded a duet with late singing legend DEAN MARTIN for a new expanded CD release of the holiday classic DEAN MARTIN’S CHRISTMAS WITH DINO.
McBride added her vocals to the 1959 recording of BABY, IT’S COLD OUTSIDE.
She says, "There’s something about hearing a Dean Martin holiday song. You think, ‘OK, it’s time to start the season, it’s Christmas time.’ That’s definitely how I feel." McBride will have a lot of time to feel merry - the album is set to be released on 12 September (06).

The Bank Of Jamaica is honouring late reggae superstar BOB MARLEY by issuing commemorative gold and silver coins.
The 1,000 coins, which feature the singer’s dread-locked likeness, are being produced by the British Royal Mint and are being sold for $100 (£56) each.
Bank spokeswoman JACQUELINE MORGAN says, "We’ve received quite a bit of interest already." The coins were intended to mark the 60th anniversary of Marley’s birth, which was celebrated in 2005, but the bank is just now offering them for sale.
This is the second time the bank has issued coins bearing Marley’s likeness the coins commemorating his 50th birthday have completely sold out.
Marley died of cancer at the age of 36 in 1981 and remains one of Jamaica’s most beloved national heroes.

SNAKES ON A PLANE has hissed, rattled and bitten its way to the top of the UK and Ireland box office chart, knocking animated movie CARS from the number one spot.
The SAMUEL L JACKSON-starring action hit took £1.07 million ($1.9 million) in its opening weekend, to go with the $15.3 million (£8.1 million) it made in the US.
Cars finished in second, taking just under £1 million ($1.8 million) ahead of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN’S CHEST, which sits in third place.
Animated horror film MONSTER HOUSE is fourth. Teen comedy JOHN TUCKER MUST DIE entered the chart in fifth.

Hollywood star LINDSAY LOHAN is set to be the latest celebrity perfumer - she’s planning to launch her own scent.
The MEAN GIRLS star, 20, told fashion publication Women’s Wear Daily she was still in the initial stages of planning with the French fragrance house Coty.
A Coty spokesperson refuses to confirm or deny Lohan’s claims, saying, "We don’t comment on rumours." Lohan’s new business foray would align her with current famous perfumers JENNIFER LOPEZ, SARAH JESSICA PARKER, NAOMI CAMPBELL, DAME ELIZABETH TAYLOR, CELINE DION, PARIS HILTON, BRITNEY SPEARS and SHANIA TWAIN.
