Cartoon icons Tom and Jerry have quit smoking.
Scenes of the iconic animated cat and mouse lighting up are to removed and replaced with new fames after several parents of young fans complained to British TV regulator Ofcom.
Officials agreed the scenes in two episodes, ‘Texas Tom’ and ‘Tennis Chumps’ , were “inappropriate” for a show aimed at children.
In one scene, cat Tom is seen trying to impress a female cat by rolling a cigarette, lighting it and smoking it with just one hand.
Turner - the parent company of the channel that aired the cartoons, UK satellite TV network Boomerang - contested the ruling claiming editing out all references to smoking might adversely affect the “value of the animation”.
However, Ofcom disagreed and ordered them to make the changes before showing the offending instalments of the classic cartoons again.
