Swedish TV network STV have been forced to apologise to viewers after they screened a pornographic film in the background during a news bulletin.
Anchor PETER DAHLGREN read a five-minute segment shortly after midnight on Saturday (19AUG06), unaware the X-rated Czech film was playing on a monitor behind him.
STV bosses called the incident a “huge blunder”. Spokesperson PER YNG says, “This is highly embarrassing and unfortunate.
“It must not happen again.”

PRIMETIME co-anchor CHRIS CUOMO will join anchors DIANE SAWYER and ROBIN ROBERTS as a newsreader on ABC TV’s GOOD MORNING AMERICA.
Cuomo, son of former New York governor MARIO CUOMO, will read the news and substitute for Sawyer and Roberts as needed.
He will star on 5 September (06) when the show goes head-to-head with NBC’s TODAY show featuring the new anchor team of MATT LAUER and MEREDITH VIERA.
Cuomo, a lawyer who serves as ABC’s senior legal correspondent, will travel on breaking news stories and continue reporting on Primetime.

SOUTH PARK creators TREY PARKER and MATT STONE have signed on to make the horror film GIANT MONSTERS ATTACK JAPAN!.
The film will combine live-action with the “rubber-suit” techniques made popular in Asian films such as GODZILLA.
According to Stone, “This will be our opportunity to find out if there are any actors left who want to work with us.” It will be the first time the pair have worked with real actors since their pre-South Park features CANNIBAL: THE MUSICAL and ORGAZMO. The duo have also signed up to make the high school comedy MY ALL-AMERICAN with Parker directing and Stone producing.
Stone adds, “We learned from the last two films that they can’t all be self-generated. Trey and I are script whores, so we’ll be very involved in shaping these projects.”

HAROLD AND KUMAR GO TO WHITE CASTLE star KAL PENN is joining the cast of the hit series 24.
Penn will play a man involved with the leader of a neighbourhood mosque. Although the US Fox network will not reveal plot details, Penn is thought to be the key to a terrorist plot. The sixth season of the show starring KIEFER SUTHERLAND, will premiere in January (07) and picks up 20 months after last season’s finale.

JENNIFER ANISTON is donning her director’s hat to shoot her first film project with pal ANDREA BUCHANAN.
The pair have teamed up to make short film ROOM 10 with KRIS KRISTOFFERSON and ROBIN WRIGHT PENN for style magazine Glamour’s annual Reel Moments project.
The three stories chosen to be adapted by Glamour bosses are all based on real-life sagas sent in by readers.
Last year GWYNETH PALTROW made her directorial debut when she took charge of a romantic comedy for the project.
Aniston and Buchanan’s drama is set in a hospital emergency room, where Kristofferson’s patient character quizzes his stern nurse (Wright Penn) about the bad choices she has made in her life.
Kristofferson admits he’s thrilled to be working with the former FRIENDS star: “I have so much respect for Jennifer as an actress; it’s very easy for me to take direction from her.” Aniston admits Paltrow’s debut in 2005 inspired her to get involved this year: “I had seen Gwyneth’s last year… and I heard about the whole project, and thought it was fantastic.” Actress BRYCE DALLAS HOWARD also makes her directorial debut, taking charge of another film in the 2006 series.

THE SOPRANOS star JAMES GANDOLFINI will appear as legendary author ERNEST HEMINGWAY in a new movie about the author’s stormy romance with World War II correspondent MARTHA GELLHORN. ROBIN WRIGHT PENN will play Gellhorn, Hemingway’s inspiration for his classic book FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS. Gandolfini will develop and produce the film for US cable network HBO, where the actor has signed a three-year production deal. He is also working on the documentary OCCUPATION IRAQ for the network about US soldiers fighting the Iraq war and their homecomings.

Cult science fiction series STARGATE SG-1 is on the verge of closing at the end of its current 10th season.
Bosses at America’s Sci Fi Channel have chosen not to order further episodes of the show, the longest-running science-fiction series on US TV.
The Stargate SG-1 series is based on the 1994 time-travel movie starring JAMES SPADER and KURT RUSSELL. Its 200th episode aired last week (18AUG06).
The series’ ratings have been in decline since long-running lead RICHARD DEAN ANDERSON quit the show last year (05), but it still boasts a strong fan base, with several conventions staged globally every year.
Producers are refusing to let the show die completely - they’re hoping to air a new season on a different cable network.

AUDIOSLAVE star CHRIS CORNELL has mixed feelings about drug angel dust because it turned him into a crazed recluse - but fired up his songwriting imagination.
The rocker had a bad PCP (phencyclidine) experience when he was 14 and it changed his life for both the better and the worse.
He explains, “I got a panic disorder… I wasn’t telling anyone the truth.
It’s not like you go to your dad or your doctor and say, ‘Yeah, I smoked PCP and I’m having a bad time.’ “I became more or less agoraphobic… From 14 to 16, I didn’t have any friends. I stayed at home most of the time.
“Up ’til then life was pretty great. The world was big an I felt I could do anything I wanted. Suddenly, I felt like I couldn’t do anything.
“But in the isolation, my imagination really had time to run.” The results from this period went on to become hits for Cornell’s grunge supergroup SOUNDGARDEN.
His PCP experience scared the rocker away from taking hard drugs until he was in his late 20s, when alcoholism led him back into a spiralling substance abuse hell.
The now clean and sober star adds, “The worst drug experimentation I ever did was because I was drunk and didn’t care.”

Rocker DAVE NAVARRO was less than impressed with KEVIN FEDERLINE’s performance at the Teen Choice Awards and would have sent him packing if he appeared on his show ROCK STAR: SUPERNOVA.
Navarro appeared on JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE on Monday night (21AUG06) and the talk show host asked him if he caught BRITNEY SPEARS’ husband’s debut performance at Sunday’s (20AUG06) award ceremony.
The exasperated rocker replied, “Oh, dude, you’re going to do this to me? Yes, I did. “I’ll tell you what blew me away about it - he had acrobatics and fire and all this stuff going on - all these people that are very, very talented around him. “So, I guess that works. I mean, it was a spectacle to say the least. I was not impressed, I was not blown away.” When Kimmel asked what would have happened if Federline had performed on Navarro’s talent show he quipped, “He’d be packing his bags! Sorry, dude!”

Bosses at music store chain Tower Records have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the second time in two years.
The news confirms recent fears that major-label suppliers had cut off their CD shipments to the store after it failed to pay bills.
Officials at the chain’s corporate parent company, MTS Inc., insist they plan to keep existing stores open as a “going concern” and seek out a new owner.

REBA McENTIRE joined fellow country queen FAITH HILL onstage at Los Angeles’ Whisky A Go Go on Friday night (18AUG06) to help raise cash for Hurricane Katrina victims.
The flame-haired star stepped up onstage to sing two tracks with Hill as part of the BREATHE singer’s hastily-arranged Bread & Water charity show.
The show took place after Hill and husband TIM McGRAW had performed their second of three Los Angeles dates at the Staples Center.
McGraw sang covers SUSPICIOUS MINDS and SWEET HOME ALABAMA and new song THE RIVER AND ME at the low-key benefit before letting the ladies take to the stage.
The Bread & Water concert raised money for the couple’s nonprofit Neighbor’s Keeper Foundation for continued relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Singer MARIE OSMOND has signed on to judge US talent competition CELEBRITY DUETS. Osmond will join rocker LITTLE RICHARD and producer DAVID FOSTER for the competition that pairs recording stars with celebrities not known for their singing. Among the singing stars signed for the show are MICHAEL BOLTON, BELINDA CARLISLE, PETER FRAMPTON and MACY GRAY, who will be paired with actors including LUCY LAWLESS, CHEECH MARIN, and LEA THOMPSON. The show premieres 29 August (06) on the US Fox network.

KEITH URBAN’s amazing year has been topped by the news he’s country music’s top hitmaker.
The Aussie, who wed NICOLE KIDMAN earlier this summer (06), has scored the highest-debuting country single in the 62-year history of America’s Billboard pop chart.
His new single ONCE IN A LIFETIME crashed into the new chart at number 17, according to early estimates.
The single has surpassed two previous country tracks that debuted at number 18, EDDIE RABBITT’s EVERY WHICH WAY BUT LOOSE and GARTH BROOKS’ comeback 2005 hit GOOD RIDE COWBOY.

Rappers COMMON, TI and RZA have joined the cast of director RIDLEY SCOTT’s new film AMERICAN GANGSTER.
Common, real name LONNIE RASHID LYNN JR, TI, real name CLIFFORD JOSEPH HARRIS JR, and RZA, real name ROBERT DIGGS, will join cast members DENZEL WASHINGTON and RUSSELL CROWE. The drama revolves around the empire of New York drug kingpin FRANK LUCAS, who smuggled heroin in the body bags of US soldiers killed in Vietnam.
Shooting began earlier this month (AUG06) in New York City.

Prominent members of the hip hop community have slammed BRITNEY SPEARS’ husband KEVIN FEDERLINE’s debut performance at the TEEN CHOICE awards, labelling him a joke. XXL magazine editor in chief ELLIOT WILSON and King magazine executive editor JERMAINE HALL have both hit out at the lacklustre performance.
Wilson says, “I think we ignore him. He’s a joke, basically. I just don’t think he gets it. “He doesn’t get that he’s Britney’s man and it’s hard to take him seriously.” Hall adds, “The thing that really hurts him is the fact that he’s perceived as Britney’s husband. “You know, kinda like Britney’s second - I don’t even want to say second in command, but - he’s like the Britney Boy. “He’s like Mr Spears, and it’s kinda hard to get over that perception.”

LATEST: Hip-hop mogul SEAN ‘DIDDY’ COMBS has confirmed he is set to be a dad again after a week of speculation.
The New York Post broke the news that the rapper’s on-off girlfriend KIM PORTER was pregnant last week (14AUG06), and now Diddy’s representatives have confirmed the happy news.
In a statement released earlier today (22AUG06), Diddy’s rep says, “The couple is thrilled about the news.” It’s the couple’s second child - Porter gave birth to their first son, CHRISTIAN in 1998.
Diddy has another son, 12-year-old JUSTIN, from a previous relationship.
