GALWAY, IRELAND -- (Marketwire) -- 12/07/09 -- Written by Martin Lynch, European News Editor for Industrial Info (Galway, Ireland) -- Leading European energy companies are seeing green as the United Nations Climate Summit in Copenhagen kicked off Sunday. Leading power : companies, including RWE AG : (OTC:RWEOY) (Essen, Germany), Iberdrola Renovables SA (Valencia, Spain) and Electricite de France : (EPA:EDF) (EDF) (Paris, France), made promises and gestures about emissions in the past week, although EDF's contribution has been restricted to a series of new low-carbon adverts designed to promote the company's green credentials and entice new customers. A more serious commitment to lowering the carbon footprint came from RWE, Germany's second-largest power producer, which claimed it will reduce CO2 emissions 20% by 2012.
