EmSense Names Scott Smith VP of Business Development, Advertising and Marketing

Smith brings to the company extensive experience in the application of electroencephalography

(EEG) in cognitive neuroscience. In his new position, he will expand EmSense's existing Fortune 500 client portfolio into new industries and aid in the development of the company's suite of media engagement measurement products and services.

Smith's career has been focused primarily on providing groundbreaking applications of EEG to leading academic institutions. Smith was part of the team that provided the first commercial 128 channel EEG amplifier to the National Institutes of Health. He was instrumental in providing cutting-edge neuroscience systems to such prestigious institutions as Stanford, UCLA, and The UC Davis Center for Mind and Brain. His most recent positions include vice president of business development for Electrode Arrays, a research grade electrophysiology company, and vice president of business development for Sands Research, a neuromedia analysis company focused on high-density EEG analysis of television and other advertising media. Prior to Sands Research, Smith handled the western North American sales for Compumedics, Inc., a neurodiagnostic and imaging company.

Smith began his corporate career with Neuroscan, Inc., a first research-grade electrophysiology company. His experience with leading software and equipment providers to academic and medical research has provided insight into the application of cutting-edge technology in many research areas including cognitive psychology, sports psychology, and psychophysiology. Prior to joining the corporate world, Smith completed a research internship at Harvard Medical School. At Harvard, he worked as part of a team studying Schizophrenia in the laboratory of Robert McCarley, M.D. using EEG and Evoked Potentials in conjunction with cognitive stimulation techniques.

Smith earned a B.A. in Psychology from Sul Ross State University, and an M.S. in Psychology with a focus on cognitive electrophysiology from the University of Texas, El Paso.
