FAIRFAX, Va. – September 25, 2013 – Tiffin University has partnered with Ellucian® to provide onsite and remote technology services in support of its academic mission.
Ellucian is providing the institution with the expertise and resources it needs to advance its IT initiatives, increase system integration and automation, and be more responsive to its users.
Tiffin, a private institution in Ohio, partnered with Ellucian for a five-year engagement to provide IT leadership, web services, technology infrastructure support, 24x7 customized technology help desk, and Application Management Services.
“We are not located in a metropolitan area and that makes it difficult for us to find and keep the high level talent that is needed to run a complex university operation,” said Leon L. Wyden Jr.,
TU’s vice president for finance and administration. “Ellucian provides us with access to remote technology specialists in addition to onsite generalists so there is timely availability of the right people with the right skills. They have also brought a customer orientation to IT, making the department more responsive to our users.”
The value of the partnership was first demonstrated on day two when one of the university’s servers became unstable and failed repeatedly despite the best efforts of Tiffin’s IT staff. Ellucian resources quickly stabilized the system, minimizing any downtime. Ellucian has also developed a plan to increase the functionality and usability of the PowerCampus™ by Ellucian administrative system. When executed, this will provide the institution with greater effectiveness and process efficiencies while avoiding additional software expense. The partnership will enable additional returns as other third-party projects can be completed locally. Also, Ellucian is providing strategic planning guidance and helping the university establish governance for its IT initiatives.
“Engaging with Ellucian was a good decision,” said Wyden. “Our progress was limited by a shortage of resources under our old model. Now we will have a much more productive and enterprising IT department to move us forward in support of our academic mission.”
“Technology environments are complex and changing,” said Mike Wallesen, senior vice president and chief services officer, Ellucian. “They require different skill sets at different times that make staffing difficult and expensive. Ellucian can scale our resources and expertise to meet the changing IT needs of an institution on any given day.”
