LOS ANGELES, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/13/12 -- The non-profit organization, The MY HERO Project, ( http://myhero.com : ctt.marketwire.com/?release=965916&id=2390941&type=1& ..
) invites you to join them for their 8th annual Film Festival on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at USC's School of Cinematic Arts. Dedicated to connecting and inspiring children across the world through interactive media, this year MY HERO will highlight filmmakers who have focused their lens on humanitarians and their extraordinary efforts around the world to end war, disease, hunger, prejudice, and environmental damage.
Nominees ( http://myhero.com/films : ctt.marketwire.com/?release=965916&id=2390944&type=1& ..
) for 2012 feature an A-list lineup of extraordinary men and women. The film Hidden Blessings showcases the journey of Debra Messing (Will & Grace, Smash) through Zambia and her first-hand experience of the plight and lives of AIDS-infected women and families. "I'm thrilled that Hidden Blessings and my work as a Global Health Ambassador for PSI is being honored by The MY HERO International Film Festival," said Messing. "I lend my support to people living with or affected by HIV and AIDS because I believe that if more people had access to a wide range of HIV prevention methods, an AIDS-free generation is truly within reach."
Up for two awards at the festival, including "Best of the Fest," is Right to Play, by Producer Frank Marshall (Back To The Future, Indiana Jones). The film captures the incredible achievements of athletes who change war-torn communities through sports and athletic play. "Right to Play is about much more than teaching kids to play; it's about giving them the tools they will need to lead successful and productive lives," said Marshall.
MY HERO will also highlight the efforts of community heroes such as Matthew Cohen, a high school student who constructed solar-powered ovens to eliminate pollution in rural communities, and Slater Jewell-Kemker, whose film, An Inconvenient Youth, has been recognized by the United Nations for inspiring environmental sustainability.
