Dr. Lazear was chairman of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers from 2006 to 2009. In his position as the chief economic advisor to the president, he helped guide the government’s response to the credit crisis and the recession. He advised on all economic issues relevant to the administration, including macroeconomic and fiscal policy, energy, health, environment, tax policy, economic issues in education and student loans, immigration, unemployment, entitlement programs, trade policy, and regulatory issues involving communication and Internet access. He also served on the President’s Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform in 2005.

Dr. Lazear is the Jack Steele Parker Professor of Human Resources Management and Economics at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business and has served as the Morris A. Cox Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution since 1985. Dr. Lazear is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and of the Econometric Society and a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research. He has a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University, where he focused on industrial organization and labor economics. Dr. Lazear has testified in a number of high-profile cases. He will be based in Cornerstone Research’s Menlo Park office.
Dr. Lazear’s research applies economic principles and econometric techniques to a range of issues. He has addressed numerous topics, including pricing and marketing policies; the impact of new products on markets; labor markets, personnel economics, and discrimination; worker and executive compensation; the impact of government policies on a variety of social outcomes; and the effect of incentives on behavior. He has published over one hundred articles, with publications in such journals as the American Economic Review, the Journal of Political Economy, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, and the Journal of Labor Economics. An esteemed economist, he has received numerous prizes for scholarly achievement in economics, is the founder of the Journal of Labor Economics, and is founder and former president of the Society of Labor Economists.
