www.edvanceresearch.com - Donald Barfield, President of leading educational research company Edvance Research, Inc., has been appointed to the Joint Advisory Board of the Education Research Centers (ERCs), an organization created to conduct research that benefits education in Texas. In 2006, the 79th Texas Legislature authorized the creation of three ERCs which were established at Texas A & M University at
College Station, The University of Texas at Austin and The University of Texas at Dallas.
The ERC Joint Advisory Board, appointed by the Commissioner of Texas Higher Education and the Commissioner of Education, was formed for the purpose of adopting policies for governing the operations of the ERCs, as well as reviewing and approving any research conducted by them.
Barfield was selected as a member of this Board because of his expertise in education and educational research. He has more than 20 years of executive leadership in public, non-profit and for-profit educational organizations, and his guidance has resulted in the successful delivery of major education research and development initiatives. Barfield's past experience includes leadership roles in school districts. He previously served as Assistant Superintendent of the San Francisco Unified School District with responsibility for all district-level research, planning, assessment, evaluation and information processing.

Barfield serves as Associate Lab Director of the Regional Educational Laboratory - Southwest at Edvance Research (REL Southwest), one of ten educational laboratories in the Regional Educational Laboratory Network (REL Network), under the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) of the U.S. Department of Education. REL Southwest serves the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas and works for the benefit of over 7 million students and 500,000 teachers in approximately 14,500 schools in grades pre-kindergarten through college in this five-state region.
