No Touch All Laser EpiLASIK
New type of contact lenses – Chromogen lenses that help patients with colour blindess to see better and Dyslexic patients to read better
Expands with Two New Branches in Mount Elizabeth and East Shore Hospital Singapore, November 19, 2009 -- On November 18, 2009, Singaporeans, who suffer from some of the highest rates of myopia, can now look forward to two new alternatives in myopia correction. The two techniques will be announced by the Eagle Eye Centre (EEC), a Singapore-based, one-stop eye-care centre, which will also its expansion of two new branches in Mount Elizabeth
and East Shore Hospital.
The two new techniques will add to their armamentarium for refractive error correction and give patients more options. EEC was privileged to be the 1st centre in Asia to implant these new lenses for the correction of moderate to high myopia. The new Acrysof Cache Lens are easy to implant through a tiny 2.5 mm tunnel incision and the procedure will only take less than 5 minutes per eye and offers excellent precision and reversibility for the treatment of myopia. EEC is also proud to offer the new “No Touch”, “All Laser” Epi-LASIK that does not require any suction, any surgical cut or surgical instrumentations on patients’ eyes.
Dr Julian Theng, Medical Director of the Eagle Eye Centre says, “The new technique promises a whole new level of comfort that all patients will not feel any discomfort at all during the 10 minute procedure to correct their myopia and astigmatism.”
EEC is also proud to announce a new optometric service that will help colour blind patients to distinguish colours and also help dyslexic patients to read better. These special chromogen lenses will offer a new lease of life and hope to these patients.
Dr Lim Wee Kiak, Chief Executive Officer of the EEC says, “These days we should not look at just restoring vision but enhancing it. This technology will enable those who suffer from colour-blindness to drastically improve their quality of life and if we can help those with dyslexia read better, we are also helping to improve their chances in life.”
The EEC has grown from a clinic of one doctor to a group of four ophthalmologists, with each one specialising in different aspects of the eye, thus enabling the clinic to offer more solutions and treatment options for patients with different eye disorders.
Dr Lim says, “Our objective is simple. We want to be a one-stop solution centre for their eye-care needs. However, it’s not enough just to offer a full range of services but to offer the best range of services possible. So, this is why the four of us, with our four different specialities, have joined forces to offer that to the patients.”
The clinic has also stood out in its participation in clinical trials, where it has played a role in ensuring that eye-care technology is developed to suit the unique nature of Asian-eyes. Previously the 1st centre to perform the 1st Phase 4 clinical trial on the latest Restor +3.00 multifocal lens in Southeast Asia, EEC is now the 1st centre in Asia to perform the Acrysof Cache Lens for the correction of myopia and to introduce the “No Touch”, “All Laser” Epi-LASIK in Singapore.
Mr Sik Gim Keat, General Manager of Alcon Malaysia and Singapore says, “If you look at the global population, you will find that most of the future growth market is in Asia. As such, it is only logical that we work with the doctors on the ground to make the best possible technologies for the Asian eyes. We congratulate the Eagle Eye Centre on its expansion. Thanks to partners like the EEC, we have the privilege of working with top-quality doctors, doing top-quality work. Their findings have proved invaluable to us as we try to develop the best technologies for the market.”
