2013-06-24 13:12:48 - ‘JETRO Dubai’ explores Dubai World Central’s state-of-the-art infrastructure

[UAE, June 24, 2013] A high-level delegation from Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) recently visited Dubai World Central, the world’s first purpose-built aerotropolis, to take a closer look at the state-of–the–art infrastructure and facilities available to Japanese companies seeking to establish and expand their business operations in the Middle East.

The visit of the Japanese delegation is in line with DWC’s strategy of attracting leading international companies to commence operations from DWC and take advantage of the pioneering multi-modal infrastructure at the aerotropolis to both strengthen presence in the UAE and enter new markets in the region.

Hiroki Matsumoto, Managing Director, Dubai and MENA, JETRO, said: “The trade relations between the UAE and Japan have been witnessing steady growth over the

years, with the value of Japan’s trade with the UAE reaching USD 52.9 billion in 2012. In particular, Japan’s automotive industry trade in the GCC countries has been thriving and we are now focused on light industries, especially food and healthcare products. We see Dubai as an important gateway for Japanese products to enter new markets in the region. JETRO is thus keen on strengthening our collaboration with major business hubs such as Dubai World Central.”

Earlier this year, DWC sent a mission to Japan to meet several key organisations in Tokyo and Kyoto, including the Japan Management Association, a non-profit organisation with 1,430 corporate members, and acts as a government support structure aimed at the promotion of managerial efficiency in Japanese industry.

Rashed Bu Qara’a, Chief Operating Officer, Dubai Aviation City Corporation, said: “The UAE and Japan share a long history of bilateral trade relations and both countries are keen on further strengthening these ties. Japanese products, which are known for their superior quality and innovation, are highly sought-after in the UAE and across the Middle East markets. By setting up operations in DWC, Japanese companies can optimally leverage the infrastructure and facilities we offer to capitalise on the favourable market conditions and penetrate new regional markets”

Japanese companies, especially from the trade, logistics, food and healthcare sectors, can significantly benefit from the multi-modal logistics platform and the temperature-controlled facilities available at DWC.
