2008-04-04 17:57:10 - Even though the number of interracial relationships has increased over the past twenty-five years, there are still many African-American women who remain harsh critics of mixed unions that involve Black men and White Women.

One of the most classic films in American cinema is ‘Guess Who's Coming To Dinner' starring Sidney Poitier, Spencer Tracy, and Katharine Hepburn, and this 1967 movie was one of the first to highlight a dating couple where the man was African-American and the woman was Caucasian. Later, we saw such films as Spike Lee's ‘Jungle Fever' (1991) starring Wesley

Snipes and Annabella Sciorra. In the middle of the Twentieth Century, it seemed to be the parents of Caucasian women who were heavily against the idea of an interracial relationship. In the Twenty-First Century though, it seems as though Black Women are the harshest critics against such a marital union.

‘I've met a lot of [African-American] women who will say Black men only want to date White women because they perceive them as docile pushovers. Black women will say, ‘I'm a strong sistah and most brothers (i.e., Black men) can't handle that. I don't totally agree with that,' said Alan Roger Currie, who is the author of the popular paperback, ‘Mode One: Let The Women Know What You're REALLY Thinking.' ‘Black men are not intimidated by a woman's strength of character or even a powerful personality. Some [Black] men just don't want to deal with a woman who is unnecessarily loud, obnoxious, disrespectful, and/or argumentative' added Currie. Currie said he feels as though many single African-American women are simply frustrated by the shortage of available quality Black men in today's dating scene.

Currie will be joined on his show, ‘Upfront & Straightforward with Alan Roger Currie' this week by his friend and fellow BlogTalkRadio Internet radio Host, Steve ‘The Dean' Williams. Williams, who founded the website SchoolofDating.com, will discuss with Currie interracial relationships and the misguided perception by some African-American women that they are ‘stronger' than Caucasian women. Williams has been married to his wife Laura, who is Caucasian, for eight plus years. ‘The last Black woman I dated threw a ketchup bottle at my head. And she referred to herself as a ‘strong sistah.' Yeah, right!' said Williams.
