The DIXIE CHICKS only had to look in the eyes of their children to realise they could not apologise for controversial comments they made about US President GEORGE W BUSH onstage in London three years ago (03).
The trio was caught up in a huge patriotic frenzy when they returned to their native US after publicly criticising Bush, but the girls in the group knew they had to stand firm, despite the death threats and radio bans, for the sake of their kids.
Singer NATALIE MAINES, who made the comment she was ashamed to come from the same state as the president, says, "When all this was happening, I had a two-year-old, and EMILY (ROBISON) had a baby.
"I know a lot of people who would have just said 'Sorry,' but I had to think about when my son gets old enough to ask me what they were talking about.
"I could never say, 'Oh, I said this thing about the president because I didn't agree with us (America) going to war, but then I took it back.' I wanted him to know that I stood up for what I know to be right."
