WASHINGTON, DC -- (Marketwire) -- 11/16/09 -- Information Builders, the independent leader in business intelligence :

( BI :

), today announced that the United States Department of Education's Federal Student Aid, the U.S. Postal Service, and the U.S. Transportation Command are using its leading BI platform, WebFOCUS, to save costs, increase transparency, and significantly enhance efficiency across day-to-day activities.
Information Builders is leading the BI industry in delivering the widest-deployed solutions for managing government performance, and providing that information to both officials and taxpayers.
Information Builders' federal government clients include:
-- Federal Student Aid (FSA)/U.S. Department of Education: FSA has
implemented WebFOCUS to accurately allocate billions of dollars in
student aid. The Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR)
Analysis Tool, powered by Information Builders' BI software, helps 200
colleges and universities across the country assess the accuracy of
student aid applications and determine eligibility for need-based aid
such as grants, subsidized loans, and work-study programs. By analyzing
their data in one highly effective system, schools and FSA officials
have prevented hundreds of millions of dollars in potential improper
payments within the Federal Pell Grant Program. The application
effectively supports the administration's focus on preventing waste,
fraud, or abuse of taxpayer funds.
-- U.S. Postal Service (USPS): Using Information Builders' WebFOCUS, the
USPS developed a BI infrastructure for identifying, tracking, and
reporting trends to comply with the Bank Secrecy Act. The technology
supports Privacy Act requirements pertaining to Federal AntiMoney
Laundering Laws and Regulations around the collection, processing, and
storage of personal information. The USPS can identify suspicious
money orders, ensure the completion and accuracy of forms, efficiently
enter data, and render comprehensive online reports.
With $25.7 billion sold annually, the USPS is one of the country's
largest issuers of money orders, a popular tool of choice for criminals
laundering money. By implementing WebFOCUS, the USPS is able to detect
and prevent the laundering of illegal funds and ensure its more than
100,000 employees comply with the Bank Secrecy Act.
-- U.S. Transportation Command (U.S. TRANSCOM): U.S. TRANSCOM uses
Information Builders' BI technology to devise optimal evacuation plans
for the Department of Defense based on urgent medical needs, available
facilities, and in-transit visibility to reduce errors and delays in
the movement and treatment of patients. The WebFOCUS-based TRANSCOM
Regulating and Command and Control (C2) Evacuation System (TRAC2ES)
helps to assure positive outcomes for sick and wounded soldiers
anywhere in the world and includes consolidated information about
transportation, logistics, and clinical decisions. It supports patient
movement from the battlefield to definitive care, and when necessary,
to rehabilitative care in hospitals.
ARRA Fund Manager
Information Builders is currently developing a BI solution for government agencies seeking to comply with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). With its ARRA Fund Manager, Information Builders will enable government agencies to consolidate financial information from multiple sources, including federal stimulus funds, and deliver it in a secure, easy-to-use dashboard. The ARRA Fund Manager is generally available.
Consistent with the administration's goal of transparency, Information Builders partners with government agencies to implement powerful solutions that enable accurate and timely reporting of the use of stimulus funds, while providing easy-to-use dashboards for citizens to monitor the use of taxpayer funds. The ARRA Fund Manager will automate ARRA compliance reporting, increase transparency and accountability, monitor funding, track key performance indicators, analyze effectiveness, and provide a platform for public-facing reporting.
Agency and department administrators will be able to see how their programs' actual expenditures are performing relative to their budgets and drill down into line items. Managers will be able to view, in detail, where money is going in the programs they administer. With comprehensive real-time information at their fingertips, decision-makers will gain complete visibility into the operations of a department, agency, initiative, or program to make more informed financial decisions.
"For three decades, we have strived to provide our customers in the public and private sector with value, impact, and relevance," said Gerald Cohen, founder and president of Information Builders. "Our solutions, together with our proven track record, put us in the leading position to help organizations at all levels of government deliver transparency and accountability.
