SOUTHBOROUGH, Mass., May 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The semi-annual DEMO conferences are known for showcasing the best new ideas and products that the technology industry has to offer. World-changing products such as TiVo, Java 1.0, the Palm Pilot, Salesforce.com, and Half.com got their start at DEMO events, and rocketed to success in part through the connections they made with the powerful DEMO audience of influencers, investors, and early adopters.

"DEMO was designed as a launch pad event for the cream of
the crop in technology each year. It's tremendously gratifying to see DEMO companies doing so well as they move into the broader marketplace," said Chris Shipley, product analyst and executive producer of the DEMO conferences. "I always celebrate demonstrator successes, a bit like a proud parent who never doubted for a minute that her children would go on to great things."
DEMOletter's Keith Shaw has chronicled demonstrator news for the DEMOtracker report. In 2007 alone, Shaw has reported on multi-million dollar acquisitions, venture investments, skyrocketing demand for demonstrator products, and notable awards and distinctions. These achievements include:
-- Gail Kantor and Alan Jay Glueckman (eJamming -- DEMO 07) were named to
Fortune Magazine's 24 Top Innovators of 2007. The eJamming platform is
designed so that musicians located in different places can collaborate
on music in perfect synch and in real time. Kantor reports that,
"eJamming AUDiiO beta sign-ups are accelerating at a wonderful
pace -- musicians and singers in over 90 countries all over the globe
are jamming."
-- Two additional DEMO innovators appeared on Fortune's list: Diane Greene
of VMware (DEMO 2003 and DEMO 1999) and Caleb Chung of Ugobe (DEMO 06).
VMware has twice brought its innovations in virtual machines to the
DEMO conference and Caleb's Pleo dinosaur came to life on the DEMO
stage, to a rousing chorus of 'Happy Birthday' from the DEMO audience,
a little more than a year ago.
-- "Finding three DEMO all-stars on Fortune's list got me scouting some of
the other lists that see how DEMO companies fared," continued Shipley.
"Nearly 20 per cent of the OnHollywood 100 got their start at DEMO,
including BiggerBoat, VideoEgg, Glam, and Linden Labs. Dash
Navigation, SimplyHired, EQO Communications, IPLock, ZoomInfo, Jangl
and a handful of other DEMO alumni made the Red Herring 100 list."
-- MooBella, the self-serve, custom-made ice cream machine that wowed the
DEMO audience at DEMO 06, has won two awards in recent months. The
Food Network honored MooBella with the award for "Icy
Innovations -- Inroads in Ice Cream." MooBella was also the first
runner-up in the 10th annual Design Contest at the SolidWorks 2007
International User Conference and Exposition.
-- Aggregate Knowledge (DEMO 07) recently completed its second round of
funding for $20 million in financing, led by Duff Ackerman & Goodrich
Ventures (DAG Ventures), with Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers also
participating. Aggregate Knowledge's Collective Discovery Service
"emulates the way people naturally discover information and shop
online," Aggregate Knowledge says. The service moves beyond a
traditional keyword search by tapping into the collective behavior of
other online users to anticipate and look for content that users are
actually looking for.
-- Enterprise content management vendor Koral (DEMOfall 06) announced in
April that it was acquired by Salesforce.com (DEMO 2000). In a blog
posting at the Koral Web site, CEO and founder Mark Suster said the
entire Koral team will join Salesforce.com to lead the content
management initiative.
-- In February, Cisco Systems announced a definitive agreement to acquire
Five Across Inc. (DEMO@15), one of the early vendors in the social
networking market. The Connect Community Builder from Five Across lets
companies augment their Web sites with full-featured communities and
user-generated content, including audio/video/photo sharing, blogs,
podcasts and profiles.
-- In January, Cisco Systems announced that it was acquiring IronPort
Systems for $830 million. IronPort launched its flagship enterprise
spam and spyware protection appliance at DEMO 2003 and appeared at DEMO
06 to launch a Web security appliance built to prevent exposure to
phishing, spyware, and other malware that destroys systems and
productivity.
Note to editors: This is the first in a series of news alerts informing media of the ongoing successes of DEMO companies. News alerts will be issued every four to six weeks.
