2014-04-02 06:35:19 - LXW Breathes New Life into Youth Gospel Music
For Immediate Release
[Los Angeles, CA] April 1, 2014 – Deitrick Haddon, pastor and lead, of gospel choir LXW (League of Extraordinary Worshippers) is about to release a project that will wow young audiences with its powerful songs and take older audiences down a path, reminding them of what Gospel music is all about. This album answers the questions that have been asked numerous times in recent years, by choirs near and far, as the demand for Choir Music has been growing. “Will choir music sound get back into the mainstream Gospel?” “Will there be any new songs that my choir can sing?”
Innovative thinker, Deitrick Haddon, found the solution to the aforementioned problem, by deciding to go back-to-basics and combining
his cutting-edge style with the classic sound to form… Deitrick Haddon’s LXW (League of Xtraordinary Worshippers).
Choirs have long been associated with Gospel music. For some time, that is what dominated the sound of this genre. Songs from choirs like: James Cleveland & the Southern California Community Choir, Milton Brunson & The Thompson Community Singers, Walter Hawkins & the Love Center Choir, became staples in churches across the nation. For the past 20+ years, a myriad of new sounds have been ushered in as new subgenres, including: ‘praise and worship’; ‘contemporary’, ‘urban’; ‘jazz’ and even ‘hip hop’. All of these ‘new’ varieties provided Gospel music with an audience that it has never attracted before, shifting the focus completely away from the foundational sound that most people came to associate with Gospel music, an unfortunate side effect.
Deitrick Haddon remembers a time when choirs had a stronger presence in the African-American church. “Every fifth Sunday was Youth Sunday,” said Deitrick. “Young people had a platform, and they had music that was made specifically for them. I want to bring that back.”
He plans to do just that with the release their self-titled debut. LXW has already set the tone with their current radio single, “Great God”, a simple song about the awesomeness of God, and how He is able to do anything.
Pre-orders for the album start on March 25, 2014. Fans who pre-order via iTunes or Amazon MP3 will be able to instantly download “Great God”. On April 6, 2014, Deitrick Haddon’s LXW will kick-off BET’s 2014 Celebration of Gospel. He is listed as one of the show’s highlights.
About Deitrick Haddon and LXW:
Deitrick Haddon, famously known for his role in “The Preachers of LA” on Oxygen grew up the son of a Bishop and Evangelist, recalls being called to spread the gospel at 10 years old. He hopes to inspire young people to follow his calling through his music as well as his words. As a pastor, singer, and actor, Deitrick Haddon is a force for change. The 3-time Grammy nominee is already claiming victory for his new project dropping this April 2014. His group, Deitrick Haddon’s LXW (League of Extraordinary Worshippers), is based in Los Angeles, CA.
The LXW project is an amazing project that has brought together 150 voices in LA. Representing West Coast Gospel, Deitrick and LXW are filling a void in Gospel music. While praise groups and individual singers have enjoyed a larger presence, choir music has taken a back seat. This, Deitrick believes, is a mistake. “Young people are the lifeline of the church”, he says. By creating music for youth choirs Deitrick Haddon’s LXW is “resurrecting the youth choir movement”, and allowing young people to have a voice.
Their debut album features a list of ‘Who’s Who’ in the current choir music sub-genre including Hezekiah Walker, Donald Lawrence, Ricky Dillard as well as a new generation of Gospel superstars (Jessica Reedy).
