2013-10-01 18:09:45 - When you are searching for a suitable hosting provider at a datacenter, please endeavour to investigate the premises, security, disaster prevention and recovery procedures put in place by these firms.
On the 20th September 2013 it was bought to our attention by one of our IT Support clients that their internet had gone down. Further investigation has found that the datacenter which was hosting this client’s broadband had suffered a major fire at an industrial trading estate.
We wish to bring to your attention the need to conduct due diligence on any server co-location or hosting company for your business – ourselves included. The datacenter *must* have the top of the range infrastructure for all types of disasters, whether man made or natural. In this instance a datacenter was being operated at an unsuitable premise.
Needless to say, the data loss and system downtime had a massive impact and large repercussions,
both financially and operational for any customers that were being hosted at this location in Northampton.
The downtime lasted ten days. Ten days is a huge amount of time for a business to loose both internet connection and access to their data. It doesn't take much imagination to foresee problems ahead for the affected businesses.
Also interestingly, this isn't the first fire to take place at this location.
It's therefore mandatory that businesses undertake an investigation of the company that are hosting the equipment whilst checking the disaster prevention methods that are on hand. If disaster strikes, which this case has proved; there has to be a backup plan so your business can continue to run, unaffected.
If you have any questions related to our server co-location package, or would like information about our datacenter, please feel free to ask. However, for security reasons we cannot advertise the exact location of our datacenter.
