2009-11-09 13:33:05 - High visibility clothing suppliers Xamax are advising cyclists to think about equipping themselves with hi-vis garments this winter

This is in a bid to prevent some of the thousands of accidents which occur on Britain’s roads, due to motorists being unable to see cyclists in their path.

As the nights draw in, those who use the roads in the morning, evening and at night are particularly vulnerable, as poor visibility means that they run the risk of being

hit by passing cars.

Xamax offer a range of high visibility clothing for cyclists, including vests, jackets, bodywarmers, polos, t-shirts, sweatshirts and fleeces. For industrial usage, they also offer a range of hi-vis workwear, including coveralls and high-vis trousers. The Wakefield-based company was founded in 1991 and has established itself as a market leader in corporate clothing and workwear. Their extensive product range includes embroidered and screen-printed garments, which they offer to both the public and private sector.

For many years, it has been a legal requirement of those who work in environments where there is low visibility to wear hi-vis garments, but surprisingly this is not the case for cyclists. Despite this, Xamax are advising those who cycle at all times to wear high-vis garments in order to ensure that they are as safe as possible.

A spokesperson for Xamax commented:

“Each year, thousands of accidents are caused on Britain’s roads involving cyclists who are not seen by motorists. To prevent this, we have a range of high visibility clothing, all of which will ensure that the wearer can be clearly identified.”

Continued:

“High visibility clothing is not just a good idea in winter, every time you go out on your bike in the dark, you should be able to be clearly seen by motorists. Our range of high visibility clothing has been specially designed to be as comfortable and affordable as possible, making these garments accessible to all cyclists.”
