cri-report - In China, with the growth of the economy, improvement in residents’ living standards, increase in health and nutrition awareness and government support, the dairy product industry rapidly develops and becomes one of the important advantageous industries in recent years. Since 2011, the output of China’s dairy products rapidly rises, reaching 23,874,900 tons in 2011, with an increase of 13.99% YOY. Currently, despite the swift development of China’s dairy product industry, some existing problems also deserve attention. First is the milk source shortage caused by the rise in prices of forage grass and feed, increase in
cow feeding costs and backward technologies. Second is the quality safety issue of dairy products. Third is the vicious competition among diary product enterprises caused by increasingly fierce price war, oversupply of dairy products, low technical level of enterprises and influences of foreign dairy industry. For example, the import volume of large-packaging milk powder was 449,600 tons in 2011, which was 3.5 times that of 2008.
Future tasks of China’s dairy product industry and enterprises include the following aspects. Firstly, to vigorously carry out the construction of fine-breed cow projects, forcefully strengthen the construction of large-scale and standardized milk source bases and promote grassland improvement and manual grass planting.
Secondly, to establish and complete the quality safety control and management system of dairy products, formulate related product standards in line with the internationalization trend and accelerate the formation of supervision and feedback mechanisms.
Thirdly, dairy product enterprises are supposed to focus on the brand establishment and technological development, in order to avoid the repeated production, severe product homogeneity, vicious competition, etc.
On the whole, with the development of China’s economy and increase in income per capita, the demand for dairy products will continuously increase. There is great development potential and space for China’s dairy product industry.
