2008-07-25 07:00:09 - Somnath Chatterjee a national hero emerges the political choice of the Prime Minister and Congress party for his efficient conduct to carry out the constituional obligation the process carved out on 22 July,2008 a trust vote needed after Left withdrawl their support to UPA coalition government.

24 th July 2008,New Delhi: CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat said they did not have any other option but to take disciplinary action against the veteran Marxist Speaker Somnath Chatterjee as he refused to quit the post after a party directives .Talk to press conference here, Karat said it was "unfortunate" for them to take disciplinary action against the veteran

Marxist leader and it was not a "happy thing" to do.

'The Central Committee decided that no member of the party should remain the Speaker of Lok Sabha after the withdrawal of support. We were asked to communicate this to him. He did not agree...we had no option (but to take action," Karat saidA day after Somnath Chatterjee was expelled by his party,

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visited him today amid UPA's continued expression of solidarity with him and requests that he remain the Lok Sabha Speaker.

Lest the Party or its office bearer did not know that crucifying the speaker who has done his job well will make CPM loose its lustre. The Party discipline or its action has been seen by the nation to block its leaders emerging as national hero,is like a wood cutter cutting the same branch of his tree on which he stands.

Left along with third front UNPA putting across the nation clean image with left the great think tank for the upcoming third front finds the Somanth issue cutting their image, political adamency is reasons to create many storms in many states in the world and in India on many occasions.Leaders and party adament character brings blockade and further evolution is retarded in active politcal thoughts ,the recent examples of these are Myanmar,China to some extent,North Korea and many Western African countries.

With action of CPM in haste who has been blaming PM acting in haste for nuke deal cut their own speaker to seize,PM too in wisdom of ploitical haste for hisparty moved to get Speaker Somanth for his party support and request to continue with his council of minister followed suit.

The Prime Minister visited the veteran marxist leader early in the morning and was with him for about 15 minutes during which he is understood to have conveyed his gratitude to Chatterjee for conducting the proceedings of confidence vote in a remarkable manner.

A number of union ministers and UPA leaders followed suit. Among them were ministers Pranab Mukherjee, Ram Vilas Paswan, Renuka Chowdhury, Raghuvansh Prasad and Narayan Swamy.

The MPs who flocked to Chatterjee's residence included Congress' Navin Jindal, Subbarami Reddy and Karan Singh, Samajwadi Party's Revati Raman.

"The Speaker is deeply hurt with the expulsion decision of the party. However, we will not let him resign as UPA is firm behind the Speaker," Paswan said summing up the mood in the ruling coalition.

"For a person who had seen the party's increasing strength from 15 to 50 seats in the House, the CPI(M) has meted out grave ill-treatment to him. Every party showcauses their members before expulsion. The CPI(M) should have at least thought before doing what they did," he added.

Chatterjee is said to be receiving calls from all across the country congratulating him.

A number of ministers, including P Chidambaram, Shivraj Patil and Saifuddin Soz, visited him yesterday
