Set for January 2009, this will be the first California stop for the world's largest and foremost public art event. This debut event will include the unveiling of two life-sized fiberglass cows, a preview of the CowParade San Diego artists' lab at Liberty Station and the announcement of local beneficiaries by San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders. CowParade San Diego will feature 200 life-sized fiberglass cows transformed by artists from San Diego and Tijuana and displayed around San Diego's premier outdoor locations for three months, Jan. 3 through March 31, 2009. The cow sculptures will dot the region's landscape, becoming an important tourism attraction and weekend outing for local families. More than 1 million people are expected to visit the cows in San Diego and it is estimated that the post- exhibition cow auctions will generate hundreds of thousands of dollars for the local nonprofit organizations.
