2009-12-18 21:44:33 - Burkina FASO presenting first CDM Project based on small scale gasification

Based on the pyrolysis technique of an Indian company, Henri Koubizara, the major of the City of Po near by the border of Ghana stated that a gasifier delivered by Ankur Scientific Baroda has been running for 6 weeks without causing any problems.
As only low skill labor is needed we could form a technical group that is operating the gasifier without any problem.
The gasifier turns agro-residua like ground nutshell and stalks from Millet into a hydrogen rich producer gas in order to replace Diesel from Gen sets to 100% . The Major pointed out, that the process is 100% clean with only ash and charcoal as a byproduct.
"Our next step is to use this biochar as "terra preta" in

order to enhance the fertility and moisture captivation for our gardens soil." Later on we will extend the capacity for additional 250 KW and extend the Biochargardens to larger scale farming, the major said.

Koubizara, who intends to work with experts from the International Biochar Initiative is convinced, that the combination of power production plus soil amendment by biochar could be crucial for developing not only his city. Producing power becomes "carbon negative" instead of only being neutral because of the sequestration of the Biochar in soils. Now our first goal is to become Burkina Fasos first carbon neutral city the major stated.
