The North depends upon the South despite its opulence, scientific and technological capacity, nuclear power and military bases distributed throughout the world to overthrow governments and repress peoples. Vegetal lungs, jungles, forests; energy, water, fertile lands; young population; biological diversity and more are in the South. Venezuela's Adjunct Ambassador to the United Nations, Julio Escalona writes:
The international elite that makes up the military-scientific-financial complex has declared war on us with the objective of destroying the progressive forces of the South and taking possession of and exploiting our wealth to guarantee the accumulation of capital.
It wants to see Copenhagen fail because it has its own vision of
how to solve the problems generated by climate change. Bio-piracy, geo-engineering, nanotechnology, genome project, GM crops, synthetic biology, agro-fuels are the nucleus of the scientific take-off orientated towards reproducing capital, generating an ever more serious intervention in eco-systems, such as bacteria and enzymes that "eat" toxic waste. The deepening of neo-liberal globalization and the predominance of the financial economy over the real economy will coincide with the growth of poverty and the violation of the right of health, education, housing ...
There's Obama unable to push forward his health policy prevented by those making gains from medical insurance, in association with financial mafias.
Hunger is the kill-people-only bomb that limits the capacity to think and act, reducing people to depend on alms and donations coming from the North. Low intensity wars in the poor, massive shantytowns of the South using sophisticated arms of mass as well as selective destruction.
We can understand it better when we observe that the increase of world population by 2050 will only be in the South.
A special war against indigenous and peasant communities because they represent a solid barrier to the defense of nature, traditional seeds and cultivation.
Finally, the battle to make people idiots, especially the young through individualism and fear.
Hence, the importance of common spiritual values, solidarity, altruistic love and the empowerment of people.
