SAN DIEGO, CALIF.-Cook & Schmid has been retained by the Olivenhain Municipal Water District (OMWD) to develop a community outreach campaign that will encourage long-lasting water conservation practices and communicate information about drought ordinances.

As part of the strategic campaign, Cook & Schmid conducted research into OMWD's customers' practices and preferences. Based on the survey results, Cook & Schmid then developed

a brand for OMWD - H2O Running Low - and currently is refining themes to be implemented across multiple media and communication channels. (See campaign brand artwork at the end of this release. Hi-res versions of artwork available upon request).

'In our experience, the most successful campaigns are based on research to formulate messages that resonate with key audiences and determine the best way to reach those people,' said Jon Schmid, Cook & Schmid partner. 'It is very gratifying to be once again working on one of the most important issues facing our region. Water conservation is a long-term challenge for Southern California, and its success is critical to future generations as well as the economic well-being of our entire state.'

Southern California's water supply is falling dangerously low because of below-average rainfall, court-ordered water restrictions aimed at protecting endangered smelt in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta and dry conditions in the Colorado River basin.

Cook & Schmid has run a number of successful behavior-change campaigns in the Southern California region. The firm won five national awards for its work with the Mountain Area Safety Taskforce (MAST) for a fire safety public education program in the San Bernardino Mountains. Cook & Schmid is also currently employed by Riverside County to change perceptions about homelessness and to direct individuals and families to resources for help. And the firm is currently running a campaign for the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters to increase voting by mail.
