2013-12-16 14:34:53 - The conference to bring forth international rules and regulations to maintain food safety standard in the Omani food market.
Food consumption in Oman is expected to grow by 5.3%, out of which 80% of the requirement is met through imports. Acknowledging the growing demand for the need to establish and follow food safety measures in the Sultanate, Fleming Gulf will launch the Food Safety & Quality Conference on 7-8 May 2014 in Muscat, Oman. With H.E. Nabil A Molla, Secretary General from GCC Standardization Organization delivering the special address, the conference will discuss and debate on constraints, growth trends and untapped markets in the food safety and quality sector.
As per recent reports by Gulf News, the Omani government has approved setting up of the Food Safety & Quality Centre in the region. This centre will oversee quality and standards
across all aspects of the country’s burgeoning food supplies and services industry. The Food Safety & Quality Conference will expand on the role of the Food Safety Council in improving health conditions and the need to establish international standards and regulations.
In a recent broadcast by the Sultanate of Oman TV Company, the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries disclosed the plans to invest US$1.29 billion in fisheries development between 2013 to 2020. With investments rising in the fisheries sector we have Mr. Micheal Katz, CEO at Oman Aqua Science who will express his views on the adoption of processing and packaging methods for Oman seafood in the premium market. Additionally, Saoud Bin Nasser Bin Mansoor Al Khusaibi from the Ministry of Commerce & Industry Oman will highlight the importance of regulations and certifications in promoting food quality and food safety at the conference.
The conference will see speakers from government and non-government organization like the Ministry of Commerce & Industry - Oman, Dubai Health Authority, Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, Dubai Multi Commodities Centre and Nestle Middle East. Globalization in food supply trade and increasing consumer awareness are the driving force for the growth of the industry and any concerns with Food Safety and Quality need to be addressed across all levels.
