Colorado Cleantech Industry Association Announces “Interactive Q&A: What Can Your Clean Tech Company Do to Be a Top Contender for Federal DOE Funds?”

2009-04-08 20:36:36 - The Colorado Cleantech Industry Association (CCIA) and its federal lobbying firm, Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, are hosting an interactive Q&A with Kyle Simpson, former Associate Deputy Secretary for DOE's Energy Programs, Mike McAdams, former Policy Advisor to BP's Lord Browne and John Herrick, former Chief Counsel for the DOE's Golden office. The event is April 15, 3-5 p.m., at the offices of Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, 410 Seventeenth Street, Suite 2200. Admission is free for CCIA members and $80 for non-member guests; advance registration is requested.

Denver, CO, April 8, 2009 -- The Colorado Cleantech Industry Association (CCIA) and its federal lobbying firm, Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, are hosting an interactive Q&A with Kyle Simpson, former Associate Deputy Secretary for DOE's Energy Programs, Mike McAdams, former Policy Advisor to BP's Lord Browne and John Herrick, former Chief Counsel for the DOE's Golden office. The announcement is made by Christine Shapard, CCIA Executive Director, who says the event is April 15, 3-5 p.m., at the offices of Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, 410 Seventeenth Street, Suite 2200. Admission is free for CCIA members and $80 for non-member guests; advance registration is requested.

clean technologies going to the US Department of Energy (DOE Shapard says. “It sounds good, and it is, but it doesn't mean much unless you are one of the grant recipients. But where is the money going and what does it take to be a top contender? This is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to learn from the experts what it will take to be competitively positioned to win some of the billions invested in DOE's clean technology programs Here’s more information about the distinguished panel:

C. Kyle Simpson

Mr. Simpson is a Policy Director in Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck's Washington, DC office.  He specializes in helping clients take advantage of new market opportunities, manage difficult business and government relations issues, identify sources of capital, eliminate market barriers and capture economic benefits.  Previously Mr. Simpson was the senior policy advisor on domestic and international energy matters to the U.S. Secretary of Energy and he served as Associate Deputy Secretary for Energy Programs.  Mr. Simpson's distinguished career also includes the following achievements and positions with the DOE: vice chairman, Energy Resources Board, DOE; federal liaison to the Northwest Comprehensive Regional Review Board, DOE; and staff director for DOE Deputy Secretaries Charles Curtis and Bill White.

Michael J. McAdams

Mr. McAdams is a Policy Director in Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck's Washington, DC office.  He has over 28 years of experience in government and public affairs in both the public and private sectors and has also worked in both the federal and regulatory areas with specific focuses on energy, climate change, air policy, fuels and tax policy.  Mr. McAdams spent more than 14 years working for BP where he was the Associate Group Policy Advisor to then Chairman of BP, Lord John Browne. In addition, he served as the Vice President of the eastern United States for Government Affairs as well as Vice President of Government Affairs and Environment.  Across his span at BP, he was a major participant in the greening of the company, having been involved in their climate change efforts, clean fuels introductions and strategy for expansion in biofuels, solar and wind.  In the last two years, Mr. McAdams has been engaged in the formation of a group of advanced biofuels companies representing some 18 second generation technologies before the Congress.  Prior to moving to the private sector, Mr. McAdams served as Legislative Director to Congressman Ralph Hall (R-TX) from 1981-1985, where he was responsible for Energy and Commerce Committee issues.

John A. Herrick

Senior Counsel in the Denver office of Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, Mr. Herrick has extensive experience in assisting private companies and public entities to secure funding for their clean energy projects, including wind, solar and geothermal projects.  Mr. Herrick has over 20 years legal experience in working on U.S. DOE loan guarantee matters, including 15 years working for the DOE.  As a senior finance counsel for the DOE in Washington, DC from 1986 through 1992 and then as Chief Counsel for DOE's Golden Field Office in Colorado from 1993 to 2008, Mr. Herrick was lead counsel on a number of DOE loan guarantee projects and on many of the new alternative technology projects in solar, wind, geothermal, hydrogen and cellulosic biorefinery projects entered into by the DOE.
