State Treasurer Richard Mourdock, Chairman of the Indiana Education Savings Authority, announced today that Indiana’s CollegeChoice 529 Direct Savings Plan and CollegeChoice Advisor 529 Savings Plan (referred to individually as CollegeChoice 529 or CollegeChoice Advisor and collectively as “The Plans”) were rated 5-Cap for Indiana residents by Bankrate’s SavingforCollege.com, earning the organization’s highest rating.

Bankrate’s SavingforCollege.com 5-Cap Rating represents the website’s opinion of the overall usefulness of a state’s 529 plan, which is evaluated using a variety of factors. According to the website, a 5-Cap Rating represents “a program that offers outstanding flexibility, attractive investments, and additional economic benefits (such as generous state tax incentives) that for some people, at least, will provide a substantial boost to their savings. There are

few, if any, weaknesses noted in the program.”

In addition, account owners in the Plans have transferred over $500,000 in Upromise earnings into their 529 plan accounts. Upromise is a free service that helps members earn money for college with everyday purchases like shopping online, dining out, booking travel, and more.

Upromise members can link their Upromise account to their CollegeChoice 529 or CollegeChoice Advisor accounts and earnings of $25 or more will be automatically transferred on a periodic basis.

"We want all Hoosier families to recognize what a terrific vehicle the CollegeChoice 529 Plan can be for bringing them closer to affording higher education, whether that means a traditional 4-year college, a community college, or vocational school,” said Richard Mourdock, Indiana State Treasurer. "These milestones indicate that CollegeChoice is making a difference in the lives of Indiana’s prospective students.”

In support of that goal, the State welcomed 2,500 fifth-grade students from the Indianapolis Public Schools on September 25 th for the first-ever Walk Into My Future pledge walk. The unique 5.29k (3.3mi) walkathon was designed to help children save for college through pledges that will be invested in the child’s CollegeChoice 529 account.
