Members of the Coates Cyclery Team take first and second place in the Redhook California Duathlon at Mt Baldy. Members of the Coates Cyclery claimed first and second place in the Redhook California Duathlon held at Mt Baldy.
Dave Robertson, 22 from Fontana, crossed the finish line in 1:15:16 after a grueling
mountain bike leg starting at the Mt Baldy Ski Lifts past the San Antonio Falls up a 3 mile climb to the Top of the Notch Restaurant. From
the Notch competitors rode past Desert View around 2 reservoirs to the transition area back at The Notch.
The 2 1/2-mile Run took challengers up Turkey Shoot, across Roller Coaster and back down to the finish line in front of The Notch.
During the duathlon competitors raced at elevations between 6,000 and 8,000 feet.
Robertson states “This is a great course, a nice climb. It pushed me to 70% of maximum. I will definitely compete next year.”
Dave Ruby, a 50 year old who has competed in 15 Ironman races in 7 countries, crossed the finished line 1 second behind Coates team mate Robertson.
Third place went to Alex Suchey, 14 seconds behind Ruby.
Ole Ellingson, race coordinator concluded “We are very happy with the response and turnout for the 1st Annual Redhook California Duathlon and looking forward to a much larger event next year.”
