2014-08-21 20:24:54 - The City of Barstow, CA partners with Vision Internet to improve service delivery, productivity, and transparency.
Barstow, Ca. 8/21/2014 - City of Barstow officially launched its new website, www.barstowca.org, this week incorporating a fresh look, improved navigation and new interactive tools.
Developed in partnership with the online government experts at Vision Internet, the new site captures the spirit of Barstow and puts detailed government information at the fingertips of residents and visitors.
“Our website is the first impressions many people have of our City,” said Anthony Riley – Barstow Public Information Officer. “It also is the portal that allows citizens to connect with local government from any location, at any time of the day or night. Our site is one of the most powerful tools we have to keep citizens engaged and informed, which is why this redesign is integral to our overall communications strategy.”
Barstow Mayor Julie Hackbarth-McIntyre stated, “The new city website is reflective of the values of our community, our pride and spirit of patriotism. We have much to be proud of, and those that visit, live and work in our community will understand the core values of what makes us such a great City.”
Many key features of the new website can be accessed directly from the new dynamic homepage that includes an “I Want to” tab that takes citizens directly to the information they need. Among the new features are:
• Service request forms to report problems and speed requests to the appropriate city department
• Document library of forms ranging from building permits to facility rentals
• Searchable, dynamic calendar of community meetings and events that can be filtered by department and easily added to personal Google, iPhone and other calendars
• E-notification sign-up for news, events, job postings and bid/RFP opportunities
• Archived agendas, meeting minutes and video
• Responsive design powered by visionMoblie™ that adjusts screen resolution to fit smartphones, tablets, laptops and other mobile devices
• Detailed employee and facility directories and community maps
• Virtual Tours of Citywide facilities, including parks and places of interest within the City and surrounding area
Ava Reyes - IT Director for the City of Barstow credited Vision Internet’s advanced content management system with boosting City government efficiency by making it easy to decentralize the posting of information. Ms. Reyes stated that, “Non-technical staff in each City department will coordinate with the PIO and IT staff to update and post information, keeping our site current and fresh. This eliminates the bottleneck created when only IT staff could update the site, and makes government information more transparent.”
“The City of Barstow’s forward-thinking approach to the website has created a powerful tool that not only caters directly to citizens’ needs, but to the needs of business owners, developers, investors, elected officials and City employees,” said Ashley Fruechting, Vision Internet’s director of strategic initiatives. “The new site engages citizens, provides information that builds trust, and delivers information when, where and in whatever format citizens want it.”
