City Lit, London's leading adult education institution, has extended its IT services contract with Getronics, continuing a partnership that has already spanned over a decade. City Lit has committed to working with Getronics for a further seven years as it continues to develop its IT capabilities to meet the evolving needs of its growing campus, staff and student body.
As Europe’s largest adult education centre, City Lit has been providing quality part-time courses for adults in Central London for over 90 years. With 3,700 courses on offer in over 20 different subjects, City Lit sees more than 30,000 students a year pass through the doors of its purpose designed building in Covent Garden.
With the business moving towards a 46 week annual
timetable, and with growing student enrolments, City Lit is keen to restructure its support resources to introduce a modern infrastructure to improve efficiency, increase flexibility and build scope for future innovation and upgrades.
Since originally outsourcing to Getronics in 2000, City Lit has continued to develop its use of IT and information learning technologies, both for staff and students. With consideration for City Lit’s funding restrictions, Getronics has worked with the team to build cost-effective solutions.
Getronics currently provides a wide range of on-site IT infrastructure support services for both staff and students including Service Desk, hardware support for servers, backup and security as well as IT implementation projects. This has also included providing the infrastructure design for City Lit’s new Keeley building which opened in May 2005.
Looking to the future, City Lit is planning to harness IT more widely across the business, with a new wireless network launching at the centre in September and discussions already underway to introduce BYOD into its offering. As part of the extended contract, Getronics will work with City Lit to develop a strategic five year plan, shifting focus from a solely staff-centric approach to also considering the needs of its students.
Mark Cook, CEO of Getronics, said: “Our renewed deal with City Lit will help ensure that technology continues to enable further business growth, as well as providing on-going support for staff. We have shown over the last 13 years that we have the knowledge, expertise and ability to augment the onsite services team with a broad range of workplace and workspace services. We look forward to continuing and building on this support as City Lit continues its IT transformation.”
Peter Meehan, Services Contract Manager at City Lit said: “From day one, Getronics has understood our ethos and industry standpoint, providing us with cost-effective proposals alongside the tools and network resilience to ensure productivity. This has had the indirect benefit of enabling the college to grow its provision, reaching even more students and we are looking forward to building on this success over the coming seven years.”
