As China's economy grows continuously, the demand of electric power enlarges rapidly. Till the end of 2007, coal-fired power still took the largest proportion of the whole installed power in China, at 78%. Though China is abundant in coal storage, it is urgent to change the only coal-fired power structure for the pressure of transportation capacity and environment protection.
As a new type of clear power source, nuclear power can reduce the population as well as slow down the greenhouse effect on the earth. It is great meaningful to enhance the construction of nuclear power which can fulfill the needs of power sources and improve the structure of power supply in China.
In 2007, the 6 nuclear power plants of China generated 62 billion KWH, which only represent 2% of the whole country's electric power.
China enhances the construction of nuclear power continuously. As forecasted, the installed capacity of nuclear power operation will upgrade from current 8.85 million KW to 40 million KW and the number of nuclear power plant will be increased to 40 in 2020.
