CH2M HILL welcomes the publication of the ‘HS2 Plus’ report by Sir David Higgins and is encouraged to see a commitment to delivering value and unlocking growth to northern cities sooner as a result of earlier construction.
The integrated approach taken in the report, to allow better connectivity with current and future lines, is a benefit not only for northern cities but also more peripheral communities which are not in the immediate vicinity.
As Phase One Development Partner, CH2M HILL is proud to have played an important role in depositing the HS2 Hybrid Bill, the largest Bill ever deposited to Parliament, on schedule back in November 2013. The company also worked on the engineering, design and environmental aspects of the project –
carrying out the land referencing and environmental assessment along the entire 140 mile stretch of the Phase One route. With experience of managing and delivering large infrastructure programmes, such as London 2012, on time and under budget CH2M HILL has direct experience of managing schedules and recognises the importance of early construction to successful delivery and providing good value.
Commenting on the report, European Managing Director for CH2M HILL, Mark Fallon said: “I welcome Sir David Higgins’ report and am pleased to see his commitment to cutting cost and improving connectivity. As the report shows, HS2 has the potential to benefit communities in the north, south, east and west of the country; building in the opportunity to link in with the existing rail system will allow these towns and cities to experience the positive effect brought by investment in national infrastructure.
“The report also gives a great boost to British engineering, which is currently experiencing a renaissance, and highlights the opportunities available to aspiring engineers. With Crossrail currently in the midst of construction and the likes of Thames Tideway Tunnel and HS2 following that, the UK is positioned to become global leaders in this sector.”
