The North East of Scotland Transport Partnership (Nestrans) has appointed CH2M HILL to carry out a study into the preferred solution for access to Laurencekirk.
After a competitive tender process CH2M HILL won the contract to look into current conditions, future traffic growth on the A90 from Laurencekirk and the potential impacts on the surrounding areas. The study will outline a preferred solution for access between the A90 trunk road and Laurencekirk and aims to improve the traffic flows on Laurencekirk High Street in a move to meet the needs of residents and help boost local businesses.
To ensure a robust evidence base for any preferred solution, the study will utilise the Scottish Transport Appraisal Guidance (STAG) and the Design Manual for
Roads and Bridges (DMRB). This will assist in clarifying the full extent of problems that have been resolved, opportunities that exist, the objectives that have to be achieved and the best solutions for completing them.
The Minister for Transport and Veterans, Keith Brown, said: “The Scottish Government is committed to working with Nestrans and Aberdeenshire Council to improve the A90 at Laurencekirk. The appointment of consultants to take forward the appraisal and design works, which we are part-funding, is an important milestone in that work and will help determine a robust case for a preferred option for accessing Laurencekirk.”
James Rowntree, Managing Director of Infrastructure (Europe) at CH2M HILL, said: “CH2M HILL is pleased to be working with Nestrans, Transport Scotland and Aberdeenshire Council on this strategic study. This is an important project for Scotland which could increase accessibility and local transportation links into and out of Laurencekirk.”
Donald Bell, CH2M HILL's Client Director added: "We are delighted to be undertaking this study and our team looks forward to working with the project stakeholders to deliver this important commission.”
