Celebrate the unifying power of Tai Chi and Qigong for achieving better health and a better world from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 26 at the same time as thousands of other people in 60 countries around the world. This year marks the tenth anniversary of this exciting global event, and features several local and international experts. The event is free and open to the public.
Normandale Community College in Bloomington is sponsoring the event, which includes interesting, visual and fascinating demos, dances, and break-out sessions. A growing body of medical evidence and scientific research has established the healing benefits of Tai Chi and Qigong.
Both Tai Chi and Qigong are becoming increasingly popular in the U.S. Often referred to as moving meditation, Tai Chi is one of the most effective exercises for physical and mental well-being. In fact, scientific studies show Tai Chi increases flexibility, muscular strength, and fitness. Qigong helps people increase their self-awareness, build internal energy, and develop a healthy body physically and spiritually.
"Being more in harmony with one's inner and outer self can lead to a happier, healthier, and more fulfilled life. That's why more people are seeing the benefits of Tai Chi and Qigong," explained Smiley. Lin, the founder of Spring Forest Qigong and co-author of a Mayo Clinic textbook chapter, agrees with Smiley. "Everyone can learn these traditional Chinese practices to help themselves and to help others," said Lin.
