A car bomb blast killed two US network CBS newsteam members and seriously injured correspondent KIMBERLY DOZIER in Iraq yesterday (29MAY06).
Cameraman PAUL DOUGLAS and soundman JAMES BROLAN, both British citizens based in London, were killed when a roadside bomb destroyed a US military Humvee in Baghdad's Tahariyat Square. A US army officer and Iraqi interpreter were also killed as the group followed troops for a story on Memorial Day in the US.
Dozier underwent surgery to remove shrapnel from her head at a US military hospital in Baghdad and was transferred to a German hospital today (30MAY06) for further treatment. Dozier has serious injuries to her lower body and is in critical condition, but doctors are "cautiously optimistic".
CBS news and sports president SEAN McMANUS said in a statement, "Kimberly, Paul and James were veterans of war coverage who proved their bravery and dedication every single day. The always volunteered for dangerous assignments and were invaluable in our attempt to report the news to the American public." Earlier this year (06), US ABC News anchor BOB WOODRUFF and cameraman DOUG VOGT were seriously wounded in a roadside bomb attack north of Baghdad.
