2013-10-22 21:34:28 - Canadian street photographer Norman Fox presents his first public viewing of a 4 year project in the poorest neighborhood in Canada.
The downtown East Side.
Norman Fox has spent the last four years photographing the people and places of his downtown Vancouver neighborhood; " Strathcona". Widely accepted as the poorest postal code in Canada, Strathcona is an historical community of working class families with along its fringes, prostitution, open drug addiction and poverty all within walking distance of the downtown core of Vancouver BC
Norman is a self taught photographer, and a person who himself has known life on both sides of the tracks. What started out as a simple hobby has turned into a passion for creating images that are able to bring something more to the traditional practice of street imagery, with a personal connection to the darker places and souls he meets along
His show, titled " Tracks" places an artistic eye on the changes that gentrification brings to the old world values and cultures of this colorful and often tragic inner city neighborhood. His show is running the end of October at The Lost and Found Cafe on West Hastings, downtown Vancouver.
