2014-03-31 09:44:52 - After completing our initial AS setup last month (AS18845 – Castlegem Inc.), with Init7 and Atlantic Metro as transit feeds, we have already taken the next step ahead.
We are bringing aboard Staminus for DDOS mitigation, and Cogent as transit carrier to complement our setup.
Staminus are well known for their excellent DDOS mitigation service, and the fact that they are local, in New York, made the choice even easier. The setup will be complete shortly, and clients will then have the option to choose virtual private server (VPS), dedicated server, and colocation plans that come with DDOS protected IPs.
Cogent was chosen for 3 reasons: 1) They are present at all major (and even not so major) internet exchanges – this will reduce AS paths globally where other carriers do not PoP. 2) They offer routes that others do not, bringing both extensive reachability and redundancy into the game.
3) They are competitive.
We have a long history with Cogent in Manchester, their reliability, support, and stability – not a single unplanned outage – helped us favouring them, and after confirming network performance from New York, the decision was made to bring them into our BGP mix. Incidentally, this will also benefit our trading clients as many companies involved in trading in New York have Cogent as transit feed.
We have also published new latency statistics on our KB page:
Standing out here is the fact that we brought our London – New York latency down to 66-68ms. This gives
clients who need this extra bit of latency reduction a clear cut and advantage – ideal again for traders and enterprise applications.
