- Cape Cod Technology Council Teresa Martin, 508-375-4190 tmartin@cctechcouncil.org Cape Cod Technology Council:

Date: Thursday, June 26th

Time: 9am-3 pm

Registration 8:30 am

Where: Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution

Clark Laboratory Building

Quissett Campus

Why:

Telecommunications infrastructure is essential to business, regional, and citizenship growth in the 21st Century. Underserved regions, such as

Massachusetts, Cape Cod, need robust communications to compete, thrive and prosper, and this region will obtain these needed data "highways" by creating new models to build and sustain them locally.

The Cape began this innovative way of thinking two years ago and the Thursday June 26 Broadband Summit 2 marks a milestone of moving from concept to execution. 100 regional leaders will join state and national thought leaders on broadband to begin the next phase of the region's broadband initiative.

The day will also celebrate achievements to date: formation of OpenCape Corp., 100% letters of support from the region's town and school districts, the pilot tests of the OpenCape network, the receipt of seed funding from the Barnstable County EDC and the Mass Technology Collaborative's John Adams Innovation Institute, and the awareness of the region's needs at a state and national level. This event is hosted by The Massachusetts Technology Collaborative's John Adams Innovation Institute, The Cape Cod Technology Council, The Open Cape Corporation, the Cape Cod Economic Development Council, the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, and the Cape Cod Community College. Innovation Tour - June 27th

The following day, Friday, June 27th, will feature Beyond Beaches and Cranberries: The Innovation Tour, showing four companies that demonstrate the kind of industry supported by OpenCape's infrastructure development. Join CCTC and the Mass Office of Biz Development as we visit a global developer of precision oceanographic instruments, a company inventing a cutting edge technology for waste treatment, a firm whose marketing and sales software is powering Fortune 400 companies, and a company with 300 employees worldwide with significant investment from Goldman Sachs that is on the fast track to a 2009 IPO. Yes, this IS Cape Cod!

Featuring Speakers FCC Commissioner Michael J. Copps, and
Commissioner, MA Dept. of Telecommunications and Cable, Sharon Gillett
