2012-08-15 19:00:30 - The Canidae Off Road Race Team is back and will be racing at this year's prestigious Best in the Desert Vegas to Reno race beginning Friday, August 17th.

The team took a short time-out from racing as its co-driver Scott Whipple, who is co-founder of Canidae Natural Pet Food company, was involved in bringing the pet food company's new Ethos Pet Nutrition facility online. Known as genuine pioneers in natural and holistic pet foods, Canidae opened its new state of the art pet food plant, Ethos Pet Nutrition, this summer in Brownwood, Texas.

When asked about the company's decision to open its own pet food facility, Whipple stated, "As a small family owned pet food company, it has always been our goal to own and operate our own pet food facility. The reality is for most small pet food companies this just isn’t possible. Compared to the overall pet

food landscape, we are a small company. We were motivated to create Ethos Pet Nutrition out of a love for pets, love of the pet food industry and out of loyalty to our customers. With the title sponsor's new pet food plant now operational, the team heads to Nevada for the 2012 BITD Vegas to Reno race in their 800 horsepower Trophy Truck, recently equipped with a Rigid Industries lighting package. Rigid, originator of the most efficient LED lighting solutions in racing, designed and implemented a custom package for the team that provides optimum visibility during difficult low light conditions.

Scott Gailey, team manager and co-driver for Canidae Racing commented, "We are very pleased to have Rigid Industries as a sponsor. Rigid has provided our truck with the best lighting system we have ever seen on a race vehicle."

On Friday, the team will begin the long trek north along Highway 95 all the way to Reno, Nevada. During the race, they will endure high temperatures, severe dust, sharp rocks and much more as they make their way to the finish line. Racers even get a close-up view of infamous Area 51 before climbing up to over 8000 feet in the Sierra-Nevada Mountains. For racers managing to get to the halfway point of the race, the second half becomes an all out sprint to the finish. Smooth graded roads take the place of rough washes as these talented drivers throw these huge trucks around like rally cars.
