. The goal of this social media fundraising contest is to encourage Canadians to give and generate donations for any registered Canadian charity.
"Donors are turning to their social networks to promote their favourite cause and to research which charities to support," says Owen Charters, executive director, CanadaHelps. "With annual donations down and the tax receipt deadline around the corner, CanadaHelps is making it easy and fun to give online and we're challenging everyone to get involved."
CanadaHelps is encouraging every Canadian to set-up a GivingPage and raise funds for the Canadian charity of their choice. Over the past nine years, more than $100 million dollars in donations have flowed through CanadaHelps to Canadian charities in every province and territory. To inspire people to enter this free contest, CanadaHelps is offering charities $15,000 in prize donations and iPod Shuffles for contest participants. The top three GivingPages that raise the most funds and the top three that attract the most donors will split the $15,000 purse between their favourite charities. Each week of the contest, CanadaHelps will randomly select a GivingPage owner to win an iPod Shuffle. The contest closes on December 20, 2009 and winning charities will be announced on December 21, 2009.
