The Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center :
, a one-of-a-kind themed outdoor learning facility, celebrated its VIP Grand Opening in preparation for the August 22 public opening. Youth groups can now enjoy this affordable facility with environmental, living history and outdoor adventure programs; some meet California State Education requirements.
The VIP event, attended by more than 400 guests, provided an opportunity for media, community leaders, teachers and youth group leaders to meet with the people responsible for the Center’s conception and development.
Built by donations from businesses and private individuals, it was in development for 12 years and under construction for more than two years.
Bob Mazzucca, Chief Scout Executive for the Boy Scouts of America, commented, “Having a resource of
this caliber with educational programs that instill an appreciation of the outdoors and teach the importance of conservation and environmentalism is a priceless asset. This is a truly a momentous day for our youth.”
The Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is intended as a gift to children that will enrich lives for generations to come. Its pricing meets the budgeting needs of volunteer organizations and schools. A school grant program provides tuition assistance. Scholarship opportunities are available.
“Thanks to the tireless efforts of passionate advocates, this is the right facility in the right place at that right time,” said Christine Kirk, Director of Outdoor Education at The Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center. “Our goal is to attract youth groups from all over.
Even with budget constraints, cash-strapped administrators can provide outdoor learning experiences to teach children about self reliance and caring for our natural environment.”
The Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center provides programs under the context of three themes – Astronomy Camp, Ranch Camp and Mining Camp – based in part on the region’s history for a well-rounded look at our world above the ground, at ground level and underground.
“You really need to see this magnificent facility in person to appreciate its expansiveness, the three different camps and amazing features like the pool, mine shaft, 2-acre rope course and amphitheatre,” said Bill Campbell, Orange County Board of Supervisors.
The free public Grand Opening event is August 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Reservations are required. Everyone is welcome to come to The Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center site at 2 Irvine Park Road in Orange for tours of the facilities and fun, hands-on activities planned to illustrate what campers experience on day and overnight outings.
