June 21,2008 Saturday:Chief of BSP which has been supporting UPA federal government for more than four years has today announced withdraw of support to UPA,the coalition government in the centre with Mrs Sonia Gandhi its chairperson.
Public scenes created with outspoken words of criticism by Leaders of Congress and BSPs about each other made the BSP chieftain to take quick decesion
to distance her party from Congress ruled alliance of UPA with a vision to go alone for killing in General election in UP to garner chunk of parliament seats.
Tacit arrangments between the two chief parties SP and BSP has been worked out to have agglomerate plans to give both an edge in coming General election to have considerable power to be King makers posotion.
The state of UP which has the maximum number seats to India's Parliament and therefore is a politically of immense significant state with King maker bearing on India's governance.
A third front is on the offing which is in hibernation, a group of MP minus Right wing BJP and centre wing Congress party looks for their consenus candidate to hold charge of top slot in coming General election.SP,BSP,Left,TDP,AIDMK with many more splinter group foot the bill.
SP with total strength of 39 MPsand Left having strength of 59 MPs,both separately or jointly abstains from voting, then the Congress may be short of majority by about 15 MPs in case of SP alone abstains and in case of left abstains Congress is though to vote because of reduced strength of the House. Both parties abstain then obvious too government survives.
News come when UPA main allies, Left group and Congress are having hective parleys for 123 agreement on June 25,the Congress needed support of its allies supporting from outside.BSP being its massive strength in UP eyes the General elections which are round the corner to muster more seats in Parliament.Chief Mayawati wants to have her party agenda, the issue by which she can garner more votes in ensuing General elections.
Mayawati chief of BSP has played her party and her political role quite well in advance distancing her party from the Congress the arch rival in state of UP.
Bahujan Samaj Party has withdrawn support to the UPA Government at the Centre. Announcing this at a press conference in New Delhi on Saturday, the party chief Miss Mayawati said, a letter to this effect has been sent to the President of India and Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
Mayawati carried out her oft-repeated warnings of withdrawing the support of 17 BSP MPs accusing the Congress-led coalition of 'neglect, step-motherly treatment and negative approach" towards her state and on the issue of runaway inflation.
At a press conference in New Delhi on Saturday, she distributed copies of her letter to President Pratibha Patil withdrawing the support, which was also sent to Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
The withdrawal of support by BSP, which comes at a time when the government is involved in a serious stand off with the Left parties on the Indo-US nuclear deal, does not really threaten the existence of the UPA government as such.
But, if the Left parties choose to withdraw support of their 59 MPs, then the BSP decision could put pressure on the government to look for support from other sources like BSP"s rival SP which has 39 MPs.
In a House with an effective strength of 543, the UPA enjoys support of 237 members 35 short of simple majority.
She ridiculed a questioner who wanted to know whether she would support a no-confidence motion against the UPA government saying the issue was obvious when she was withdrawing support.
She, however, said that a decision on a no-confidence motion would be taken when it comes up.
BSP has 17 members in the Lok Sabha. Miss Mayawati alleged that the UPA is not able to protect the interests of the common man especially of the oppressed classes. She said, the common man is today reeling under inflation. Miss Mayawati said, the Congress has also shown indifference towards a special package of 80 thousand crore rupees to Uttar Pradesh. She also charged the Congress party for not giving her any justice in the Taj corridor case.
