LONDON (AP) - Prime Minister Gordon Brown and international business leaders plan to meet Tuesday to discuss poverty-reduction proposals for the developing world, Britain's Department for International Development said.
Brown was to welcome more than 80 chief operating officers and presidents from companies such as the Coca-Cola Co., Microsoft Corp. and Citigroup in the
British capital to promote their moves to fight poverty in Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean.
The plans range from new remittance services being offered by Citigroup Inc. and telecom company Vodafone Group PLC to a commitment by brewer SABMiller PLC to source some its barley production from Rajasthan in India.
President John Kufuor of Ghana, Rwandan President Paul Kagame, and U.N. Development Program administrator Kemal Dervis were also due to attend the event.
