Boyden’s Leadership Series Features Institute of Directors’ Roger Barker
Boyden, a global leader in executive search, today released a new issue of its Leadership Series, featuring an in-depth interview with Dr Roger Barker, Director of Corporate Governance and Professional Standards at the Institute of Directors (IoD). This edition also includes a sidebar discussion with Sabine Brunthaler, a Partner of Boyden Switzerland, on the recruitment of board directors.
In the interview, Dr Barker discusses changing company cultures, education of non-executive directors, the danger of delegating risk management, progress in increasing the number of women on boards, and best approaches to talent acquisition.

Apart from his role at IoD, Dr Barker is Senior Advisor to the Board of the European Confederation of Directors’ Association (ecoDa) and Chairman of the ecoDa Education Committee. He sits on advisory boards at a number of other organisations, including the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and is a visiting lecturer at Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford, ESSEC Business School in Paris, University College London, and the UK Ministry of Defence.
He is the author of Corporate Governance, Competition, and Political Parties: Explaining Corporate Governance Change in Europe, published by Oxford University Press, and co-author (with Dr Neville Bain) of IoD’s main guide to the role of the board, “The Effective Board: Building Individual and Board Success.”
