The Boston First Night was in doubt for new year's eve 2014 due to the closure of the organisation that previously organised the event, but local businesses and foundations have stepped in to save the event.

the start of the New Year of 2013. First Night’s traditional activities include a Family Festival at the Hynes Convention Center, a Grand Procession down Boylston Street, colossal ice sculptures that dot the city’s landscape, and a spectacular fireworks display at midnight.
First Night 2013 in Beantown will feature hundreds of artists in exhibitions and performances throughout more than 35 locations throughout Boston, including the Arlington Street Church, Museum of Science, Copley Square, the Improv Asylum, and many more. A 12-minute display will light up the Boston sky at midnight. For best viewing, make your way to Boston Harbor, or to the Boston Common ball field for a front-row seat.
