FACES Philippines Launched

Boston based volunteer effort supports the work of the

Philippine Cancer Society

Boston, MA- Funding Access to Cancer Education and Services in the Philippines (FACES Philippines), was launched June 25, 2007, in this city. This Boston based volunteer effort supports organizations whose mission is to increase cancer education and screening services in the Philippines.

FACES Philippines at

href="http://www.fundcancer.com" title="http://www.fundcancer.com" target="_blank">www.fundcancer.com aims to create awareness on how cancer affects developing nations like the Philippines and to raise funds within the US to support organizations like the Philippine Cancer Society, an organization that provides cancer education and preventive services in the Philippines.

Cancer is the world's second biggest killer after heart disease. Low to middle income families in Asian countries are disproportionately affected due to lack of available resources. Americans have mainstream knowledge of cancer through well known cancer organizations which is not the case in the Philippines. Public health professionals are still laying the foundation of knowledge to educate everyone about cancer, and working hard to reach those who are in need of preventive care. 'I know that we are all affected by cancer one way or another, whether its by witnessing a friend, colleague, family member or personally going through this dreadful disease,- said Czarina Biton, Creator of FACES Philippines. 'Therefore it is critical that preventive services are available to everyone. That is why I'm asking you to join me in my efforts to support the work of the Philippine Cancer Society.-

August 16, 2007, marks a big day as FACES Philippines will hold a fundraiser known as Mabuhay 2.6 Miler Walk & Run. This event starts at 7:30 PM and will be held at the American Legion Marsh Post # 442 in Cambridge, MA. The cost to participate is $7 (race fee) and is inclusive of Filipino food and live music. The event is open to the public. B.A. Events Promotions and JNJ Turo Turo Authentic Filipino Cuisine are leading the way to support the work of FACES Philippines with in-kind donations. Local businesses and organizations are encouraged to sign up as corporate sponsors. Contact Czarina Biton at czarina.biton@gmail.com to get involved.
