LAS VEGAS POLICE DENY CLAIMS MADE IN CONTROVERSIAL DVD TUPAC ASSASSINATION
Metro police say no off duty police worked the night Tupac Shakur Killed
"We did not have any officers off duty working for Death Row Records," said John Loretto, public information sergeant.
Those words, quoted today to Corey Levitan of the Las Vegas Review Journal fly directly in the face of charges
made in the controversial DVD documentary Tupac Assassination:Conspiracy or Revenge- on sale now at all major retailers including WalMart, Target, Circuit City and FYE.
In the Controversial DVD Tupac Assassination:Conspiracy or Revenge, author Cathy Scott ("The Killing of Tupac Shakur") claims that there were off-duty Las Vegas police officers working that night for Death Row Records, and that there was a "closeness and tightness" between the officers stationed outside of Club 662. They were waiting on the arrival of Hip Hop notable Tupac Shakur, who of course, never arrived. He was assassinated on the road to the club September 7, 1996.
Loretto called these assertions "absolutely inaccurate. We did not have any officers off duty working for Death Row Records," said John Loretto, public information sergeant.
Richard Bond, the director and writer of the DVD, when asked about the comments, stated "Please. Everyone but this guy knows that there were Vegas Metro cops working that night. It was a benefit for the Friends of the Metro Police Department, organized by George Kalesis, for heaven's sake. Friends of Metro Police. And this guy says no one worked there? Part of the cover story to telling the guards not to carry weapons was that there were Vegas Metro Police at the nightclub for the charity event and they didn't want anyone who may not have a permit to carry a weapon to make trouble at the club that night."
Bond Added: "Wow! He said that? Of course this is not the first time two Vegas Metro Police have contradicted each other. In our DVD one investigator claims that Kadafi said he could ID the shooter, and another one says 'No he did not. He said he might be able to ID the driver.' It doesn't surprise me in the least that the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing."
Co-Producer Frank Alexander adds: "They claimed on the news the night of the shooting they were looking for a White Cadillac, because I told them there was a white Cadillac! Then Kevin Manning gets on national television days later and says 'it amazes me that no professional bodyguard can accurately give a description of the vehicle'. Well, they wouldn't have known it was a white Cadillac unless I told them it was a White Cadillac. They wanted to tell me it was a white Toyota, and I said 'no, that's not it Then one of the officers told me 'You don't know what you're talking about- sit down"
Bond Concludes: "I'm glad we're not done with Part II (Tupac Assassination II: Reckoning set to release in June 2008) yet. This gives us more to work with!"
Tupac Assassination unfolds as a compelling whodunit that reveals what actually happened the night Tupac was shot and most importantly, why this happened as well as the events leading up to that fateful night and the ensuing investigation. Two perspectives are explored in the film. First, how the shooting happened, what may have led to it and the disconnect between those facts and what the public has been told, and secondly, the testimony of Tupac bodyguards, whose provocative comments provide the answer to why Tupac was shot and killed. These men were never questioned by the police. This film allows them to finally go on the record with what they know. This eye-opening documentary points out all of the failures of law enforcement officials to fully investigate, follow up on leads and interview key parties involved. By the time this DVD ends, the smoke and confusion caused by unsubstantiated rumors, myopic myths and urban legends will dissipate and a clear picture will appear. Alexander and Bond have done something that the Hip Hop community has long awaited. They have provided the facts that may finally bring justice for Tupac and his mother Afeni Shakur - 11 years later. Is there enough evidence in this DVD to spark a Grand Jury inquiry? You will be the judge after you see this powerful film.
Tupac Assassination:Conspiracy or Revenge is a Bond-Age Films/Step N' Up Enterprises production.
